About the Office

The Office of the United States Attorney for the District of New Hampshire consists primarily of two divisions, Criminal and Civil. The Criminal Division is responsible for the prosecution of all federal crimes within the district. The Civil Division acts as the litigation counsel for the United States and its departments and agencies in civil proceedings filed in federal court. The office utilizes unpaid volunteer interns to assist in the preparation of both criminal and civil matters occurring in the U.S. District Court, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit and the U.S. Bankruptcy Court

Job Description

Interns can expect to: research and write memoranda and pleadings in pending criminal and civil cases; organize and summarize non-grand jury records; assist AUSAs in preparing and responding to discovery requests; assemble exhibits for trial; assist in research and writing of appellate briefs and motions; observe trials, sentencing proceedings and other hearings.

Internship Location: Concord, New Hampshire
Minimum Weeks Required: 8 – 10 weeks; working a full time schedule, no more than 40 hours a
week.

Qualifications
Student Status: Acceptance of applications for this announcement will be limited to rising second- and third-year law students. An eligible student is an individual enrolled in law school pursuing a Juris Doctor degree. Successful candidates must have outstanding academic records, superior writing skills and be in good academic standing at his/her university.
Citizenship: Student Interns must be United States citizens or owe permanent allegiance to the United States. (Currently, natives of American Samoa, Swains Island and certain inhabitants of the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands are the only groups that owe permanent allegiance to the United States.)
Background Investigation: You must successfully complete a background investigation to determine your suitability for Federal employment.
