The WG-2805-10 Electrician serves at Columbia VA Health Care System in Columbia, SC and reports directly to the Supervisor in the assigned Shop, with second level supervision from the Maintenance Control Manager. Incumbent must concentrate on planning, organizing, and directing his own work and must exercise initiative and judgement in making necessary decisions regarding the same. Incumbent may be assigned to perform duties of Electrician Foreman, in his absence, when so designated. Incumbent must have knowledge of the operation and installation of a variety of complete electrical systems and equipment, such as series, parallel, and compound circuits for single and multiple phase alternating and direct currents of varying voltage, amperage, and frequency. Incumbent must have knowledge of various gauges, sizes, and types of wire, conduit, fittings, couplings, relays, boxes, circuit breakers, and other electrical devices, and the ability to arrange and install them in ways that insure proper and safe operation of electrical systems and equipment. Incumbent must have a thorough working knowledge of all tools and instruments used in the electrician trade such as testers, multi-meters, meggers, pipe benders and threaders, drills, saws, and other tools. Incumbent must be able to read and interpret blueprints and wiring diagrams.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 7:00 am - 3:30 pm. Work schedule subject to change based on agency needs.

- Works independently when called upon to troubleshoot, repair, and make technical decisions after hours, holidays, and weekends.
- Performs a variety of tasks related to electrical equipment and systems for a campus-style/multiple building medical facility.
- Installs distribution panels, boxes, circuits, fittings, connections, and controls.
- Determines correct application and sizes of wire, conduit, fixtures, transformers, and other electrical devices as needed for proper and safe operations of electrical systems circuits and equipment.
- Performs electrical construction work which may involve assisting in the design and layout of electrical construction work and involves measuring, bending of conduit, cutting, installing, and pulling of conductors through conduit.
- Makes high and low voltage termination, runs tests on emergency standby generators and performs necessary troubleshooting and repairs on electrical and electronic components of the emergency generators.
- Troubleshoots and repairs other electrical and electronic systems and equipment such as fire alarm systems, food carts, industrial laundry equipment and other various machine controls etc.
- Operates computers and printers for work order management and material requests as well as part of the high-tech testing and calibrating equipment used to troubleshoot and analyze electronic data and repair electrical equipment and systems.
- Performs checks on power sources for the following equipment and arranges for required repairs or service, i.e., for monitoring equipment, elevators, canteen, and kitchen fire equipment etc.
- Responds to fire alarms for the medical center. May assist in the evacuation of patients, staff, and visitors from malfunctioning elevators.
- Experienced, skilled, and knowledgeable of the operation and installation of a variety of electrical systems, i.e.,wiring systems in industrial plants and/or hospitals.
- Experienced, skilled, and knowledgeable of the operation and installation of a variety of electrical systems, i.e., HIGH VOLTAGE DISTRIBUTION.
- Experienced, skilled, and knowledgeable of the operation and installation of a variety of electrical systems, i.e., emergency generator plants.
- Other duties as assigned
