What are the responsibilities and job description for the Physician - Anesthesiologist position at U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs?
This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) , a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply.
This is an Open Continuous Announcement and will remain open until the position(s) is filled. Pay : Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases.

Major Duties and Responsibilities : The responsibilities of an Anesthesiologist include critical / daily tasks and responsibilities.
The duties are but not limited to the following :
- Evaluating patients' vital signs, medical histories, allergies, current medication use, and other risk factors.
- Working with a medical team to design a patient's treatment plan.
- Overseeing the administration of anesthesia to patients before procedures by other medical staff.
- Monitoring vital signs of the patient during surgery and adjusting anesthetics as needed.
- Maintaining detailed notes on patient treatment, dosing, and vital signs.
- Continuing care after surgery to control the level of pain relief and consciousness.
- Communicating continuing care instructions to specialists, nurses, and other medical staff.
- Providing a variety of services to include pre-operative exams and intra-operative care utilizing MAC.
- Post-operative care including ventilator management within the recovery area and ICU.
Work Schedule : Monday - Friday, 7 : 30 am - 4 : 00 pm with rotating weekends and on-call responsibilities.

Qualifications : To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements (if applicable) listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending the completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Currently employed physician(s) in VA who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation.
