Individuals demonstrate the KSAs of PA-II intermediate level by:

PAs at the PA-III grade are at the full performance level and lead and organize patient care independently, practice within multi disciplinary teams, and coordinate all aspects of patient care across the health care system. They utilize advanced clinical knowledge and judgment in decision-making and evaluating outcomes. They function as experts in clinical practice and/or in areas related to the assigned roles and responsibilities, may serve as mentors for transitioning PAs, and may provide training for health care students. Physical Requirements: : This position requires potentially long periods of continued walking, standing, and sitting. The position requires the ability to cover clinical nursing services and meet physical demands found in the patient care environment. The incumbent may be exposed to infected patients and contaminated materials and may be required to don protective clothing. The incumbent may occasionally be exposed to patients who are combative secondary to delirium, dementia, or psychiatric disorders. The incumbent must be a mature, flexible, sensible individual capable of working effectively in stressful situations. able to shift priorities based on patient needs. Must complete annual Employee Health requirements, such as annual TB screening or testing, as a condition of employment Initiates Basic Life Support (BLS) in accordance with current BLS standards to include automatic defibrillation in life-threatening situations.

- Performs history and physical exams, orders appropriate medications, diagnostic and therapeutic tests/studies in accordance with VA policy, VA formulary, Colorado State regulations.
- Completes Life Sustaining Treatment orders, after discussion with the Veteran or their medical decision maker.
- Completes acute and follow up visits for Veterans per VA policy
- Determines the need for consultation from medical, surgical, psychiatric, palliative care, or other subspecialty clinics
- Determines the need for, and facilitates transfer to the emergency room, admission to the hospital and other transitions of care.
- Determines medical appropriateness for discharge and completes a discharge summary, discharge medication reconciliation note and medication and discharge orders per VA policy.
- Readily available to the team members for collaboration when clinical or program issues arise.

- Ability to function autonomously and make independent medical decisions.
- Skill to incorporate training and experience into the successful practice of patient care including telehealth medical care.
- Ability to work effectively in an interdisciplinary environment for improvement of services for patient care.

- Ability to implement and initiate clinical changes to established treatment protocols based upon new medical literature research findings to enhance patient delivery care for improved patient outcomes.
- Ability to participate clinically in the development of the PA patient care audit processes involving in-depth review and analysis of medical records.
