This position involves a multi-grade career ladder. The major duties listed below represent the full performance level of WG-05. At the WG-03 grade level, you will perform assignments of a more limited scope and with less independence. You will progressively acquire the background necessary to perform at the full performance level of WG-05. Promotion is at the discretion of the supervisor and is contingent upon satisfactory performance, availability of higher level work, and availability of funds.

PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK CONDITIONS: The Prescription Eyeglass Maker Helper normally works with small, light items and may be required to lift up to 25 pounds on occasion. Depending on assignment, the employee may sit or stand for extended periods of time. Close eye and hand coordination is required. Employee will work indoors in a climate-controlled environment. The employee is subject to occasional cuts, bruises, abrasions, burns, and high noise levels.

- Duties include but may not be limited to:
- Performs a variety of duties involved in the fabrication of prescription eyeglasses.
- Operates all machinery and equipment involved in the production of eyeglasses, in a safe manner.
- Complies with all safety and housekeeping rules and ensures that assigned area of the Optical Fabrication Laboratory are properly cleaned and maintained daily.
- Performs inventory management involving ordering supplies and storage of lens and frame stock, conducts physical inventories, restocks supply points.
- Receives frames, lenses and consumable supplies and puts them in the correct storage area.
- Verifies orders for accuracy and completeness.
- Keeps a running inventory of lens, frames and consumable supplies.
