SECTION 1: Job Summary (Summary of the basic functions of the position)
Under the general direction of the Medical Director, the Central Sterile Processing Technician receives,
cleans, decontaminates, and sterilizes items for reprocessing. Assemble and tests equipment for issue
as requested, as well as orders supplies as needed.
SECTION 2: Duties and Responsibilities (Responsibilities necessary to accomplish job functions)
- Restocks operating room supplies as caseload permits and helps pull supplies for cases in accordance with the posted schedule.
- Organizes instruments, equipment, and supplies for easy access and maximum efficiency.
- Applies specialized knowledge of specialized instruments, equipment and supplies utilized in surgical procedures. Decontaminates, assembles, wraps/packages and sterilizes instruments in a timely manner using Standard Precautions.
- Follows all manufacturers’ guidelines regarding handling and processing of instruments and equipment.
- Runs daily tests of autoclaves and sterilizers to ensure quality and maintains all required records/logs. Notifies the Nurse Manager immediately of any issues with sterilization.
- Ensures routine cleaning and maintenance is done.
- Maintains communication with the surgery supervisor or designee to ensure that any problems during the surgical schedule or possible delays in completion of the schedule are promptly communicated.
- Adheres to all safety policies and procedures in performing job duties and responsibilities while supporting a culture of high quality and great customer service.
- Assists the nurses in turning over the rooms.
- Performs other duties that may be necessary or in the best interest of the organization.
Qualifications
SECTION 3: Experience Requirements
- One (1) years experience in a sterilization role for a hospital, ASC, or other surgical services function
SECTION 4: Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Requirements
- Detail oriented, professional attitude, reliable
- Management and organizational skills to support the leadership of this function
- Ability to follow or provide verbal & written instructions with sufficient grammar and spelling skills to avoid mistakes or misinterpretations
- Interpersonal skills to support customer service, functional, and team mate support needs
- Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing
- Mathematical and/or analytical ability for basic to intermediate problem solving
- Basic to intermediate computer operation
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook
- Specialty knowledge of systems relating to job function
- Knowledge of state and federal regulations for this position; general understanding of HIPAA guidelines; well versed in AAMI standards.
