Duties

  • Assist the Family Advocacy Program Manager by providing clinical supervision and professional development training for the family advocacy and victim advocacy staff. Provides oversight, training and supervision of clinicians (master's level counselors and social workers) and victim advocacy professionals through evaluation of assessment and intervention, skills, review of records, and co-counseling, when necessary, to ensure that staff members are providing adequate and appropriate interventions in keeping with the ethical and legal standards of practice within their respective professions. Counsels and trains employees, schedules and
  • directs work, appraises work performance. Approves or disapproves leave, and personnel actions. Must be alert to substance abuse and take appropriate action. Effectively
  • supports the Marine Corps Equal Employment Opportunity and Sexual Harassment policies, and ensures compliance with fire, safety, and other environmental issues and programs. Maintains and enforces security of funds, merchandise, supplies and equipment to preclude or minimize the potential for fraud, waste and abuse.
  • Determines and analyzes the professional development and training needs of individual counselors, social workers, and other staff in the F AP office and recommends courses of action to the Behavior Health Program Manager to meet these needs. Responsible for ensuring that individual clinicians meet minimum continuing education and supervision requirements for certification or licensure. Manages the family advocacy training program which includes analyzing programmatic training needs and developing responses to meet these training needs.
  • Performs quality assurance, monitors and reviews record keeping. Provides oversight in the assignment of cases and the distribution of caseloads, including the management,
  • placement, and supervision of interns, students, and volunteers. Monitors workloads and oversight of victim advocacy activities.
  • Augments the Family Advocacy staff, as required, including conducting assessments, providing counseling to individuals, couples, and families and co-facilitating preventative and educational groups and workshops. Develops with the Counseling and-Education Supervisor and appropriate staff, advocacy and outreach services to-meet the needs of the community. Works closely with other members of the FAP staff to promote programmatic policies and goals.

  • EVALUATIONS : Qualifications

    All individuals providing clinical supervision must meet basic qualifications in order to be hired. The following qualifications are required for clinical supervisors at Tier III level per MCO 1754.11 and SECNAVINST 1754.7A :

    1. A masters or doctoral degree in one of the following disciplines or in an allied clinical field :

    a. Counseling from a program accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Education Programs (CACREP) or an equivalent degree.

    b. Marriage and Family Therapy from a program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Marriage and Family Therapy Education (COAMFTE) or an equivalent degree.

    c. Social Work from a school accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) or an equivalent degree.

    d. Psychology from a doctoral program approved by the American

    Psychological Association (APA) or an equivalent degree; an allied clinical field from a regionally accredited graduate program leading to a State license or State certification to practice independently in a clinical field; or a master's degree in psychology from a graduate program accredited by the Inter-organizational Board for Accreditation of Masters in Psychology Accreditation Counsel (MPAC) or an equivalent degree.

    2. State or U.S. territory license or certification that provides legal authority to provide clinical services as an independent practitioner.

    3. Two years that includes at least 2000 hours post licensure or 4000 hours post graduate degree, full-time clinical experience in a clinical setting is required. Experience in child abuse and domestic abuse counseling or treatment is required.

    4. Ability to express oneself orally and in writing in a highly professional manner, to meet and deal with diversified groups, individuals and organizations, and to compose written reports and material clearly, concisely and effectively.

    Must be able to successfully complete a criminal background investigation. This position is designated as being subject to unannounced random drug testing under the Department of Navy's Drug-Free Workplace Program. The selected applicant must have a negative drug test result before employment may begin.

    Due to the nature of work in this position, the incumbent may serve in an "on call" duty status outside of normal work hours that includes : remaining in a reasonable call back radius, carrying a cell phone or pager, or regularly checking email to respond to emergencies; remaining in a state of readiness to perform work with limitations on pursuing outside leisure activities, and / or reporting to a designated post of duty to be ready to or to perform work.
