What are the responsibilities and job description for the Injection Molding Department Head position at U.S. Merchants?
The Injection Molding Manufacturing Manager is responsible for the overall performance of the Injection Molding Department which includes management of 5 to 8 associates; capacity management; quality/delivery/production management; continuous improvement activities; training; management of manufacturing; and daily and strategic focus on engineering and maintenance issues.
Qualifications
- AAS or BS degree preferred, in a related technical field of study, or
- Minimum of 5 to 7 years of experience in supervisory capacity within an injection molding production setting.
- Experience managing, evaluating, and developing production associates.
- Working knowledge of robotics and automation related to the Injection Molding process.
- Working knowledge of support systems related to Injection Molding Manufacturing Facilities. (Quality, Supply Chain, etc.)
- Knowledge of Injection Molding tooling and polymers.
- Must be able to handle stress and make quick decisions with potentially incomplete information.
Responsibilities
- Develops, plans, organizes and directs the day-to-day activity of resources (people and equipment) within the Injection Mold department, to ensure departmental achievement of optimal machine performance performance, and related scorecard results. Metrics include on-time delivery, schedule attainment, and yield.
- Analyzes the capacity within their span of control and implements actions to maximize throughput. Directs the application of set-up reduction techniques and the development/implementation of standardized work within the manufacturing departments to deliver high quality products at the lowest cost and with the shortest lead time. Measures include, on-time completion of production jobs, cycle time and lead time reduction, and defect rate (ppm).
- Creates a culture of continuous improvement within the business unit. Coordinates all continuous improvement activities and overseas the development/training of employees assigned to their areas of responsibility. Cross trains employees for maximum flexibility. Monitors performance with visual management systems to ensure compliance and identifies opportunities for improvement. Metrics include such things as number of safety incidents, day-by-the-hour production tracking.
- Responsible for the leadership of personnel assigned to Injection Molding department. Ensures that applicable company policies and work instructions are fairly, consistently, and uniformly followed. Responsible for providing an environment which promotes positive morale and employee development. Key metrics include but are not limited to: implementation of goals (performance and developmental) for employees in your charge; compliance to applicable health and safety requirements; compliance to applicable company policies and work instructions.
