This position is part of the National Archives and Records Administration, Harry S. Truman Presidential Library and Museum. The incumbent is responsible for overseeing the normal operation and maintenance of audio-visual equipment and for assisting with developing audio-visual programs in conjunction with museum exhibitions and other Library activities.

Duties

As an AUDIO VISUAL TECHNICIAN, you will:

  • Work with curator and exhibit staff to determine needs for audio visual content, conduct research of a broad range of record material, contact other institutions for materials, arrange for programming of audiovisuals and script, and coordinate work by outside contractors involved in the production.
  • Set up and operate audio-visual equipment needed for special programs being held in the Museum auditorium, galleries, and meeting facilities.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and routine repair on audio-visual equipment.
  • Request and monitor service and maintenance of audio-visual equipment performed by contractors. Diagnose equipment malfunctions, failures, and operating problems and determine which contractor will perform necessary repair work.

The experience may have been gained in either the public, private sector or volunteer service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis.   • Must successfully complete a background investigation.

  • Go through a Personal Identity Verification (PIV) process that requires two forms of identification from the Form i-9. Federal law requires verification of the identity and employment eligibility of all new hires in the U.S.
  • Obtain and use a government-issued charge card for business-related travel.
  • The work requires some physical exertion such as long periods of standing, recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching and reaching. The work may also require lifting of moderately heavy objects up to 50 pounds.

Qualifications

You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement.

Specialized experience for the GS-7 is one year of experience at the GS-6 level, or equivalent, that is directly related to the position, and has equipped the candidate with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Specialized experience for this position must include:

  • Experience with audiovisual equipment, such as taking photographs, troubleshooting, recording events and setting up auditorium for event rentals and/or meeting rooms: AND
  • Experience working with various audiences, including outside vendors and media.
