ST.A.R is the strategic team that guides, advises, and implements business intelligence, data modeling and data project management for the USNA Alumni Association and Foundation. Our vision as the Strategy Analytics and Reporting Team is to be drivers and collaborators of strategic fundraising, engagement and business operations. We set the tone and environment for our team to achieve success, supporting the "Strategic Plan 2030" for the Naval Academy and Brigade of Midshipmen. 


The position is part of a highly collaborative and energetic team, all driven to advance the USNA Foundation and Alumni Association mission and committed to personal and professional development. Our team works closely to think strategically, address opportunities and challenges, and seek ways to improve group and individual performance. This exempt position reports to the Director, Information Management and Reporting and is the primary data steward and requirements analyst for the Enterprise. 


The Data Processing Specialist plays an integral role in supporting the functional managers of the development and engagement teams. The position follows the standards of the Data Governance Council (DGC) in maintaining and improving the quality and integrity of the Enterprise data, including entering data, ensuring the data is accurate and timely entered. In addition, the Data Processing Specialist helps in implementing guidelines and standards to guide data entry and change management. This position serves as the specialist that gathers information requirements from the different functional units and provides support by determining business needs for systems changes and, obtaining and documenting users' requirements. 


This position pays a competitive salary commensurate with experience and is also eligible for an annual performance-based bonus, when applicable. You would also be eligible for a generous benefits plan which includes medical, dental, vision, FSA, HSA, a fully vested 403(b) retirement plan with employer matching, 22 days of accrued paid time off (PTO) per fiscal year, 14 paid holidays per calendar year, group life insurance, short-term and long-term disability, identify theft protection, and annual opportunities for professional development. Although not guaranteed, certain additional benefits may be offered through the Naval Academy, such as use of recreational facilities (including the Brigade Sports Complex gym, marina, and indoor/outdoor pools), as well as category II eligibility for employee children to apply to the Naval Academy Primary School. 


This position is based in historic Annapolis at our newly constructed offices in the Fluegel Alumni Center, built on the banks of College Creek overlooking the Naval Academy and downtown Annapolis.

EXPECTATIONS OF THE POSITION 


Data Entry & Management 

  • Accurately input, update, and maintain records in Blackbaud CRM, ensuring data integrity and consistency. 
  • Import data from external sources using BrightVine Data Loader and export data via Zuri Velocity in support of the needs of the Enterprise and by the direction of the Executive Director of ST.A.R and Director, Information Management & Reporting. 
  • Conduct regular data audits and clean-ups to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with institutional and regulatory standards. 


Data Quality 

  • Ensure the consistent and routine append of data that support and enrich the Enterprise’s engagement and fundraising activities, including but not limited to Employment appends 

∙ Deceased appends 

∙ Email, phone, and address append

∙ Relationships append

  • Ensure the integrity of incoming data from the data ecosystem, including but not limited to RNL and Evertrue. 
  • Monitor data quality, consistency and integrity to ensure data supports the Enterprise business models. 
  • In coordination with the Enterprise IT team, evaluate adjustments to processes regarding demographic updates, solicitation coding, primary contact information identification, etc. 


Reporting 

  • Maintain queries, export definitions, OData links and existing canned reports within the Blackbaud CRM. 
  • Using BBCRM generate data exports in support of mailings, solicitations, and invitations, as well as create queries and reports to disseminate information to appropriate staff members, including gift officers, management, donor relations, research, etc. 


Data Governance 

  • Consistent with the policies derived from the DGC, monitor and enforce the data governance policies and procedures, including the standard procedures for tracking and monitoring data across the enterprise. 
  • Develop, monitor and maintain the master data catalog and data and meta data dictionary. 
  • Work collaboratively across functional teams to determine the data points, data types, and sources of data to track and translate and implement those requirements in the enterprise applications. 


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE POSITION

  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university or equivalent relevant experience

  • 1 to 3 years of data management experience, preferably in nonprofit, higher education, or an independent school. 
  • Proficient in Excel, including advanced formulas, pivot tables, and add-ins. MS Office, Office 365 including teams, sha point, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook. 
  • Proficiency in database software, preferably Blackbaud (Raiser’s Edge, Salesforce, or similar CRM). 
  • Ability to manipulate, analyze, extract, transform and load data using BrightVine Data Loader and Zuri Velocity)
