Summary You will serve as a SHIPWRIGHT in the Production Department (Code 064) of PSNS and IMF. Responsibilities You will construct staging for ship work and builds temporary wood supports, containments, and shorings of various kinds for vessels. You will build keel blocking, cradles, shoring, cribbing, and other structures to support ships in drydock. You will establish center lines, water and base lines, frame lines, degree lines, and other reference points aboard ships in locating, positioning, and installing hull parts, machinery, and fittings using trade equipment. You will perform various heavy and structural carpentry work in the repair or construction of ships. You will manufacture and repair wooden brows, landing platforms, and stairways. You will build various supporting structures for ships under construction. You will provide guidance and direction to Shipwright Workers, Helpers, and Apprentices. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and / or unusual duty hours may be required. PPP applicants will be placed at the FPL, if determined Well Qualified (WQ). To receive priority consideration, the FPL must be the same grade level or equivalent of the retained grade or the grade held immediately prior to separation.
