U.S. Silica is seeking an Engineering Intern for our 12-week Summer Internship Program. This is an exciting opportunity for current junior or senior-level undergraduate students studying [Construction, Mechanical, Process, or Electrical] Engineering degree program(s).
The Engineering Intern reports directly to the Project Manager, but also works with the Engineering Manager, Engineering Team and local Columbia operations team. The position gives responsibilities that will assist your learning and experience in the mining industry while following corporate and government regulations and guidelines. This position involves the majority percent of time spent in the plant environment under supervision, which may include exposure to temperature extremes, wet weather conditions, and respirator-required areas. The Engineering Intern will collaborate closely with all levels of the plant and corporate organizations and will be required to effectively communicate with internal and external groups. This role may involve some travel and necessitates a flexible work schedule.
Essential Job Functions:
- Assist in the project management of major capital investment construction projects.
- Create required training modules on topics such as safety procedures, equipment operation, and environmental regulations.
- Assist in the commissioning of industrial manufacturing equipment in a mining and milling environment.
- Provide support for schedule and budget management of capital projects.
- Expedite equipment deliveries.
- Develop maintenance preventative maintenance work orders for new equipment.
- Assist in daily construction management of industrial projects.
- Familiarize with the modules and resources available in the LMS relevant to job. responsibilities and career development and assist in updating and organizing training materials within the LMS under supervision.
- Collaborate with engineers and operational staff to analyze processes and identify opportunities for optimization, including waste reduction initiatives.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisors or mentors.
Required Education, Experience, and Skills:
- Minimum of a 2.8 GPA.
- Currently enrolled in an applicable undergraduate [Construction, Mechanical, Process, or Electrical] Engineering degree program(s); Junior or senior-level student.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple tasks.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and in a team environment.
- Must be located near Columbia, SC.
