What are the responsibilities and job description for the VOLUNTEER PT/AT Medical Pool: New Applicant position at U.S. Ski & Snowboard Team?
U.S. Ski & Snowboard has established a rotational pool of volunteer physical therapists and athletic trainers from various regional sponsors around the country to provide daily medical management of teams at camps or competitions. These individuals are responsible for the acute care and daily medical management while with the assigned team and for communicating ongoing medical issue management strategies to the Sports Medicine Director and/or Medical Coordinator to ensure continuity of care.
The PT/AT pool is completely voluntary or sponsored by U.S. Ski & Snowboard Regional Medical.
Any PT/AT interested in participating in the U.S. Ski & Snowboard pool program is invited to do so by satisfying the requirements listed below and submitting the requested documents and information to the U.S. Ski & Snowboard Medical Department. New applicants will be requested to complete an initial travel/coverage project with a team on a trial basis. Once they have been evaluated, and with a successful event, they may be officially added to the U.S. Ski & Snowboard PT/AT pool.
Pool Application Requirements
LMT's may be admitted on an individual basis after the application process.

Pool Application Requirements
- Certified athletic trainer or licensed physical therapist. International providers [e.g. physiotherapists, athletic therapists] are also considered if they can meet appropriate licensure requirements.
- Current first aid and CPR (Professional Rescuer) with bag valve mask and AED certification
- History of involvement in hands-on athlete management as well as athletic event coverage, preferably in our sports.
- Advanced skiing or snowboarding ability
- Must be capable of performing the essential functions of the position and be available essentially on call 24/7 while traveling with respective team
- Independent in traveling and adaptable/flexible in adverse working conditions
- Have completed the Medical Pool Membership (the Wufoo form must be completed annually)
- Successful completion of the U.S. Ski & Snowboard Medical Emergencies in Skiing and Snowboarding Course (MESS) every 4 years
- Background screen through U.S. Ski & Snowboard
- Completion of USOC Safe Sport training
- Completion of USADA's HealthPro Advantage
- Complete Membership Wufoo form (which you should have already done)
- This will trigger your Safesport, Background check, Avalanche form
- Apply through this portal and upload the following:
- Current curriculum vitae
- A minimum of three letters of reference from peers, coaches/athletes, athletic directors, and staff
- Proof of athletic training certification (BOC) and state licensure (where applicable)/Proof of Physical Therapy licensure/Proof of international equivalent.
- Copy of current advanced CPR with bag valve mask and AED certificate
- Proof/copy of professional liability insurance coverage
- The medical staff will review the applications and physicians that are selected will be notified.
