This Director level position will lead P&L and all headcount for an assigned terminal. Oversee all activities tied to ensure assigned terminal operates efficiently and at optimal capacity for all the company’s Lines of Business and customers tied to the assigned terminal. Ensures that the highest quality of customer service is provided at the assigned terminal location. Ensures appropriate support and staffing at each terminal.
- Provide day-to-day leadership to ensure a high performance, driver centric-oriented work environment that supports identifying and implementing new and creative ideas that enhance profitability/operating ratio results.
- Responsible for a breadth of all driver-facing functions related to a diverse set of stakeholders with varied, and possibly conflicting, wants/needs.
- Execute short and long-range planning to achieve goals and objectives.
- Builds, develops, and manages a leadership team to meet business goals and objectives.
- Monitor employee and Driver performance through KPI and soft-skill management.
- Enhance employee performance through coaching, mentoring, and documentation.
- Partner with other groups/functions such as HR, Safety, Orientation, Maintenance/XRA to ensure optimal solutions for all stakeholders - internal and external.
- Collaborate with recruiting and driver development to ensure hiring needs are met.
- Coordinate with stakeholders and other departments, including Building Maintenance, on service center projects that may include, but not limited to: site construction, maintenance, relocation, or signage.
- Manage Operations Specialists whose duties include management of Drivers and tractors to ensure success is achieved for customers and Drivers.
- Look to continuously improve all areas of Operations while communicating new procedures/policies.
- Establish standards for measurement and accountability at the Terminal level that will create both a positive competitiveness between fleet operations.
- Attend and participate in weekly conference calls with all Terminal Managers and the Director, and be prepared to present updates on operations, KPI’s, Trends, and culture around drivers, OT service to our customers.
- Provide continuous feedback to leaders regarding revenue per truck, driver safety, employee retention and utilization of equipment.
- Promote a company goal-oriented culture within the facility and personnel.
- Instill a culture of superior service that extends to the US Xpress customer base within the Terminal facilities and personnel.
- Ensure the terminal is well maintained and is safe, clean, and appealing to drivers and customers.
- Promote teamwork and team building for quality customer service; each manager will be aligned with the appropriate Regional Customer Service Manager and Load Planning Manager.
- Promote teamwork and team building to support company goals, each manager will be aligned with the appropriate OTR Fleet Operations Director.
- Identify Opportunities for improvement, develop and implement cost-effective solutions based on ROI such as improve dispatch MPG.
- Develop and maintain an effective yard management system.
- Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations in all areas.
- Ensure an emphasis on continual improvement and proactively work to assist others in achieving the organizations objectives.
What We’re Looking For:
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent experience required. Equivalent years of experience are defined as one year of professional experience for each year of college requested.
Experience
- Minimum 7 years in Operations including Customer Service, Fleet Management, or Load Planning required
- Minimum 5 years’ general leadership experience required
- Bilingual(English/Spanish) preferred
- Knowledge of DOT hours of service and how they apply to a Driver
- XPM / Qtops (AS400)
Skills/Certifications
- Customer & Personal Service/Building Relationships - knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes meeting quality standards for services
- Public Safety & Security knowledge helpful
- Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, P&L management, resource allocation, human resources modeling, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources
- Knowledge of electronic equipment, and computer hardware and software, including applications
