The Senior DevOps Engineer will contribute expertise to our hybrid infrastructure and build platform capabilities to enhance developer experience and speed to market. DevOps Engineers at U.S. Xpress are part of the DevEx and Infrastructure team. They are extremely code savvy with hybrid-cloud approach, function using software engineering paradigms, extensively use infrastructure as code, deploy applications at scale on Kubernetes, and work with several AWS and container platforms. They collaborate with the IT architects and Director of Infrastructure on strategic initiatives while working closely with backend, frontend, mobile, and data engineering teams.

Position Functions
- Create custom GitHub Actions for building applications
- Develop script modules to deploy applications to end platform
- Develop a framework to backup/restore from containers and platforms
- Gain knowledge about Kubernetes and develop controllers to auto remediate issues inside a containerized cluster
- Work on IaC using Terraform to create resources using the best practices that enables reporting and monitoring
- Engage in idea/knowledge transfer within team and with the development teams
- Mentor junior developers in technical aspects such as design and implementation
- Harden the security of the accounts, but at the same time allow the ease of deployment
- Collaborate in-person with all levels of the organization to harness collective intelligence of the workforce
- Attend periodic in-person meetings and trainings on recent developments, goals, and objectives. Participate in such discussions by offering input and advice
- Engage remotely and in-person with customers and potential customers to establish rapport, open communication, and expectations
Education
- Bachelor of Science degree or equivalent required
- Equivalent years of experience are defined as one year of professional experience for each year of college requested
- 5-7 years relevant experience required
- Transportation, Logistics, and/or Tech experience a plus
- Excellent Knowledge of container platform like Talos and Kubernetes
- Experience with AWS EKS and integrating it with on-premises infrastructure
- Strong experience using AWS console and creating resources in AWS
- Experience in terminal-based languages like bash and PowerShell
- Experience in debugging issues in Linux systems
- Have coded IaC using Terraform for hybrid cloud environments
- Proficiency coding IaC using Terraform for hybrid cloud environments
- Experience implementing GitOps workflows for infrastructure and application deployments
- Knowledge of cost optimization strategies for hybrid cloud workloads
- Experience with multi-cluster management tools (e.g., Fleet, Rancher, Argo CD)
- Familiarity with service mesh technologies for cross-cluster communication
- Experience implementing monitoring and observability solutions (Grafana, Prometheus, ELK stack)
- Experience with container orchestration and deployment strategies
- Knowledge of centralized logging architectures across hybrid environments
- Understanding of compliance and security requirements in hybrid deployments
- Knowledge of disaster recovery planning for hybrid infrastructures
- Demonstrated ability to think strategically and conceptually
- Demonstrated depth of business knowledge and technical expertise
- Demonstrated proficiency in data and process analysis and data modeling
- Capable of performing project leader role on medium to large projects
- Works quickly and efficiently. Able to test solutions, learn, and iterate quickly
