Job Overview
U Wine Bar is Seattle's first board game wine bar and community space in Wallingford. We are a small but devoted team of nerdy wine lovers who are unwilling to compromise on experience. We are looking for a team member to pour wine and beer, facilitate gaming events and help us to foster an inclusive and welcoming third place.
Duties
Client Experience,
- Offer a friendly, warm, and attentive experience, focused on community building on the social, interactive nature of a board game bar.
- Engage with regular guests, learn their preferences, and create a personalized experience.
- Foster a positive, interactive environment by encouraging guests to play and engage with others. Be mindful of dynamics to ensure everyone feels included.
- Be knowledgeable about the board games available, offering quick explanations or helping guests set up and get started with games.
- Ensure events run on time and guests are effectively led through the event process, ensuring compliance with WPN run events
Sales
- Accurately process customer orders and payments using the POS system, including handling cash, credit cards, and tips.
- When recommending drinks, prioritize higher-margin or featured wines, and drinks that are profitable for the business. This can include house wines, cans and bottles, or specialty libations.
- Encourage guests to purchase bottles of wine or board game to take home, especially if they're enjoying a wine that has become a favorite during their visit. Point out any bottle discounts or specials for take-home orders.
Bartending
- Ensure accuracy with measuring ingredients and follow standard procedures to maintain consistency in drink quality.
- Provide guests with tailored drink suggestions based on their preferences or the type of game they’re playing.
- Follow all legal requirements regarding the service of alcohol, including checking IDs and refusing service to intoxicated guests.
- Keep track of how much guests are drinking, and be mindful of promoting responsible consumption, especially if they are engaged in longer gaming sessions.
- Handle any disputes or complaints in a calm and professional manner, aiming to resolve issues quickly while maintaining a positive experience for all patrons.
- Keep the bar clean, organized, and ready for service, including wiping down surfaces, cleaning glasses, and properly storing equipment.
- Be knowledgeable and able to operate Espresso service at all business times.
You may be assigned other duties as needed. You are expected to be available on the weekends as well as during the week. This role is with a young company where processes, best practices and the business model are still subject to change. The company asks for and requires flexibility, understanding and engagement with the growing pains that a young company regularly experiences. As a small team we are also expected to coordinate absences with each other, help each other out and approach problems with a ‘one team’ mindset.This may mean changes to scheduling, duties and ad hoc responsibilities as needed by the business.
