We foster an inclusive culture and are looking for diverse, dedicated people to join Alcon. We are looking for a Principal Scientist - Analytical Chemistry to join our R&D Team in Johns Creek, GA. You will be responsible for research to develop or improve analytical techniques, methodology, procedures as well as investigating application of instruments in analysis.
In this role, a typical day will include:
- Developing advanced analytical methodology to characterize and understand structure-property relationship of polymeric materials
- Demonstrating scientific leadership by applying scientific/technical expertise in surface and materials characterization to identify and resolve complex chemistry issues
- Assisting management of project activities, support/coach team members, participate in sub-teams and contribute to all function strategies and goals.
- Providing answers to ad hoc questions related to materials and interface characterization
- Independently designing and implementing complex, non-standard laboratory studies to solve technical challenges.
- Mentoring co-workers within the function and routinely provide guidance to others.
- Thoroughly and clearly detailing and/or reviewing experiments in laboratory notebook; preparing high quality Technical Documents. Good laboratory and documentation practice is crucial.
- Communicating and collaborating with colleagues within a function, within team and with supervisor/mentor.
- Compliance with all regulatory, quality, and safety requirements
WHAT YOU WILL BRING TO ALCON:
- Bachelor’s Degree or Equivalent years of directly related experience (or high school 13 yrs; Assoc. 9 yrs; M.S. 2 yrs; PhD 0 yrs)
- The ability to fluently read, write, understand, and communicate in English
- 5 Years of Relevant Experience
- Work hours: M-F, standard
- Travel Requirements: 0-5%

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:
- PhD in Chemistry, physics, materials science or relevant disciplines with 5 years of experience
- Proven track record of research and development experience
- Experience with Optical and color methods
