What are the responsibilities and job description for the PATIENT ACCOUNTS COORDINATOR position at UAB Health System?
The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) is seeking a PATIENT ACCOUNTS COORDINATOR to coordinate billing and collection activities and to maintain third-party claims systems in the School of Dentistry. To assist in establishing and administering billing and collection processes and procedures. To review processes and maintain performance statistics. May supervise staff in the completion of daily activities.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Coordinates billing and collection operations in the School of Dentistry. Reviews processes and maintains performance statistics, as needed.
2. Coordinates third-party claims activities. Provides oversight of electronic claim reports and processes. Ensures billing edits are corrected timely. Establishes and maintains working relationships with external claims payers. Maintains files on insurance company fees and policies. Monitors changes and regulations in third-party reimbursement and incorporates into the billing system.
3. Provides guidance related to billing and collections to other departments in the School of Dentistry. Resolves accounts with issues and functions as "expert" to support staff.
4. Coordinates cash application and credit balances. Resolves accounts with credit balances. Audits Explanations of Benefits (EOBs) and other documents to research accounts.
5. Works accounts that require advanced knowledge review. Also works with walk-in patients as needed and assists patients in financial planning for dental services.
6. Performs other duties as assigned.
(Hourly Rate: $15.00 - $24.00)
Bachelor's degree in a related field. Work experience may substitute for education requirement.
