The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) is seeking a SHOP ADMINISTRATOR-SOO. This position will serve as the Shop Administrator to the UAB School of Optometry's Department of Optometry and Vision Science to provide assistance with tasks for the department. Plans, schedules, coordinates and supervises shop activities. Ensures materials and equipment are available and serviceable. Provides logistical and technical assistance to other internal organizations; conducts equipment and safety training; makes tooling and materials recommendations for projects; may design and fabricate innovative devices. Keeps faculty and staff advised of changes in procedures and equipment and trains and assists faculty and students in shop equipment operations. Monitors supply levels and prepares purchase orders for supplies, parts, new equipment; conducts vendor research and evaluations; records time and materials usage for projects fabricated for other departments. Maintains knowledge of current trends and developments in the field by reading appropriate publications and communications/interaction with subject matter experts. May have budget responsibilities. May be responsible for a small staff, assigning, prioritizing, supervising and inspecting the work performed by subordinates. May interview, hire, train, evaluate, discipline and discharge subordinate personnel.
(Annual Salary: $47,665 - $77,455)
Associate's degree in a related field and eight (8) years of related experience required. Work experience may substitute for education requirement.
