What are the responsibilities and job description for the Genetic Counselor Fellow - Genetics position at UAB Medicine?
Position Description
Schedule: Monday-Friday Day Shift
Location: Volker Hall
While training and operating with a limited clinical schedule, to provide genetic counseling services for various genetics clinics, including but not limited to maternal-fetal medicine, oncology, neurology, cardiology, and plastic surgery. To function as a member of the healthcare team, providing invaluable services, including risk assessment, education, result interpretation and supportive counseling for patients. To not only support medical geneticists, but also various specialties across the system. To complete additional coursework as approved by the Fellowship Director and Genetic Counseling Supervisor. To provide educational seminars on agreed upon topics.

Position Requirements
Minimum Requirements:
Completion of, or within one year of graduation from a Master's degree program in Genetic Counseling required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.
Licenses/Certifications/Registrations
Currently certified or eligible to be certified as a Certified Genetic Counselor (CGC) by the American
Board of Genetic Counseling (ABGC) within one (1) year of obtaining a Master's degree.

Must be self-directed / self-motivated; must have excellent communication and possess outstanding customer service and interpersonal skills.
