Job Highlights:

Graduate Medical Education (GME) is defined as the period of didactic and clinical education in a medical specialty, subspecialty, or sub-subspecialty that follows completion of undergraduate medical education (i.e., medical school) and that prepares physicians for the independent practice of medicine in that specialty, subspecialty, or sub-subspecialty. Also referred to as residency or fellowship education.

At UAB Hospital, the GME Office is the administrative office that manages and oversees all activities as it relates to ACGME-accredited training programs and residents/fellows enrolled in these programs. At UAB Hospital, we have 100 programs and 1200 residents/fellows.

GME operations include institutional and program accreditation, finance, compliance, and onboarding activities.

Job Description:

• Serves as an expert resource for the residency management software (used by all programs). Stays abreast of changes and communicates to end users.
• Provides training to residents, fellows, administrators, and faculty .
• Provides training sessions and collaborates with program staff in the use of setting up accreditation related processes such as evaluations, scheduling and running reports
• Coordinates onboarding activities of new residents each year and the application packets required in the residency management system
• Coordinates annual mandatory training for resident by assigning courses, writing reports, and ensuring completion
  
  

To utilize expertise in the residency management systems used in Graduate Medical Education (MedHub and UAB Learning System). To work independently to identify and resolve problems and to advance optimization of use. To provide support for internal and external customers (Program Directors, Program Coordinators, Residents/Fellows, GME staff, Visiting Residents and staff from GME programs outside of UAB) and serve as a liaison to train end users, facilitate analysis of requests/problems, and perform process improvement. To be familiar with the Accreditation Council on Graduate Medical Education

(ACGME) policies and procedures to help ensure the various GME training programs remain in compliance with accreditation requirements as related to processes set up in MedHub.

Bachelor's degree in Healthcare Management, Information Technology, Business Administration or a related field and three (3) years of related experience required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.
