Emergency Medicine Physician Investigator

UAMS - University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences
Little Rock, AR Full Time
POSTED ON 4/1/2025
AVAILABLE BEFORE 4/30/2025

The UAMS Department of Emergency Medicine’s Division focuses on research to optimize health and healthcare delivery in emergent settings. The Division’s portfolio includes current and past funding from multiple national agencies including the National Institute for Drug Abuse (NIDA), the National institute for Mental Health (NIMH), the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), and the VA Research and Development Service. In addition, many faculty and residents conduct non-funded research to address important clinical questions derived from real-world patient-care experience.

The Division works closely with leaders of the Department’s Emergency Medicine Residency program to support educational objectives. Its faculty provide lectures on evidence-based medicine (EBM) and support the monthly EBM journal club. The journal club helps residents master skills necessary to become intelligent, efficient consumers of medical and scientific literature.  Importantly, the journal club is attended by Department faculty who provide perspective and real-world experience on that month’s topic. The residency also requires completion of scholastic activities for successful graduation. Faculty from the division work closely with the department and residency leadership to help residents identify, complete, and present their scholarly work.

The UAMS Department of Emergency Medicine is the state’s only adult, level I trauma center and is located in the Arkansas State Capitol of Little Rock. It has 35 beds and a 16-bed clinical decision unit; the department serves over 60,000 patients annually. The Department includes 30 faculty members plus advance practice providers, and an excellent office staff. The Emergency Department benefits from a highly trained and dedicated nursing staff. The UAMS Emergency Medicine Residency is a three-year program with 12 positions each year. The Department’s academic offerings include fellowships in ultrasound, pediatric emergency medicine and a combined three-year pulmonary/critical care medicine program.

UAMS is Arkansas’ only Academic Medical Center and has two clinical affiliates: Arkansas Children’s Hospital and the Central Arkansas Veterans Healthcare System. With over 3,400 students and nearly 2,200 faculty members, UAMS is training the next generation of health care professionals. UAMS supports over 900 medical residents and fellows, ensuring the state has highly trained specialists.

The Division of Research is seeking an Emergency Medicine physician investigator to join our team. The ideal candidate will conduct clinical, health services, or implementation science research and have a successful track record obtaining extramural funding with a corresponding publication record. In addition to conducting research, this position will support other Division activities. UAMS offers a competitive salary and benefits package commensurate with plus RVU and quality incentives.  Candidates must have a MD or DO degree, be boarded in emergency medicine, and licensed or eligible for licensure in Arkansas.

Interested candidates should send a curriculum vitae and letter of interest to Ahley Norse, MD Chair, Department of Emergency Medicine (ANorse@uams.edu ) and Teresa Hudson, PharmD, PhD, Director DREBM (hudsonteresaj@uams.edu).
