What are the responsibilities and job description for the Mental Health Worker Per Diem position at UC Davis Health System?
The role of this position is to provide constant observation of patients who are gravely disabled, and / or a danger-to-self or others. The Mental Health Worker provides supportive interventions to encourage the safety and well-being of the patient and communicates and participates coordination of care with the multidisciplinary team. Additionally, the Mental Health Worker will provide program support that may include patient, clerical and administrative assistance functions.

- This position is subject to background investigation, including a Sacramento County Sheriff's Department security clearance.

- Experience performing administrative support functions in a medical, mental health or social services setting
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills to convey instructions, directions, and patient care information appropriately and accurately.
- Ability to work efficiently and independently in a calm manner when under pressure. Intervention skills necessary for working with psychiatric patients.
- Ability to deal with potentially inappropriate behavior in an unstructured setting.
- Ability to organize work to accommodate a rapidly changing environment and patient variability.
- Ability to organize work load and complete assignments in a timely manner.
- Knowledge of potential safety hazards in a jail setting.
- Verbal skills to elicit cooperation of disturbed individuals.
- Ability to remain calm in a crisis situation.
- Ability to recognize safety hazards in the environment and take immediate action.
- Verbal communication skills necessary to clearly and concisely receive, elicit, and convey information of a psychiatric, medical, or administrative nature to a variety of individuals within and outside the jail.
- Ability to multi-task and work with frequent interruptions. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective interpersonal relationships in the performance of duties, and to consistently demonstrate professional interpersonal skills, adhering to UCD Principles of Community.
- Knowledge of criminal justice system, including judicial system, state hospital system, forensic mental health networks, Probation, Parole and the Department of Corrections.
- Ability to work in a highly stressful jail setting with incarcerated inmates which may present hazardous conditions, including working in a noisy environment, of a highly restrictive and containing nature.
- Must be in good physical health, hear and speak well and effectively communicate in English, orally and in written form.
- Willingness to work under an institutional "No Hostage Policy."
- Willingness and ability to work flexible hours, including holiday and weekends as scheduled and assigned.
- Must be able to work occasional overtime and flexible hours.
- Ability to maintain Sheriff's Office security clearance.

Department Overview
Adult Correctional Mental Health (ACMH) is a satellite program of the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences. The program provides mental health services to inmates incarcerated inside the two Sacramento County jails located at 651 I Street in downtown Sacramento and Rio Cosumnes Correctional Center (RCCC) in Elk Grove.
