Under general supervision of the Pharmacy Business team, the Pharmacy Business Specialist is responsible for comprehensive analysis, reporting and overall data needs of UC Davis Pharmacy Business Services program. This includes both inpatient and outpatient operations, due to the nature of pharmaceutical use throughout the health system. The position assists the Pharmacy Business team and develops new committees focused on : 1) pharmacy revenue cycle, 2) pharmacy finance and budget, and 3) pharmacy strategic sourcing and supply chain. The Pharmacy Business Specialist provides information to the committees with routine analysis of financial opportunities and outcomes, including pharmaceutical billing, pricing mark-up practices, and reimbursement updates, Department cost center financial statement summary of revenue and / or expenditures by pharmacy department areas, and / or drug contract pricing updates, or percentage of preferred medication use for product market share conversions.
The position also reviews financial metrics and business reporting , integrating a variety of analytical tools and data resources. Oversees data collection, validation, analysis, modeling, and coordination of reporting of data for internal and external use. Creates and distributes data reports specific to monitored indicators. Maintains a database and monthly change reports : 1) new pharmaceutical CPT codes, code price increases / decreases, drug price increases / decreases, Hospital Outpatient Prospective Payment System (OPPS) Pass-Through Status Updates, New Medical Services and New Technologies (NTAP) Updates, 2) new revenue optimization or cost saving achievements, or 3) new generic entrance in markets and new drug contract pricing updates.
Serves as analyst for developing performance improvement projects using Lean Six Sigma methods and ensures the appropriate methodology design and deployment. Coaches staff and managers on the use of analytical tools to understand collection of data. Coaches staff and managers on the interpretation of data dashboards to understand collected and reported data. Applies program management techniques to ensure the on-time, high-quality delivery of all projects. Manages projects and ensures their compliance with organizational financial and regulatory requirements. The position is also responsible in working with IT in implementing any new systems and programs, user acceptance training and training of staff.
The analyst is a subject matter expert for Pharmacy, understanding technology, data (informatics) and the business needs. Functions as the lead in data collection, design, analysis, business requirements, user acceptance training, and implementation of reporting for UC Davis Health financial requirements. Leads in assessing technology needs, design, implementation and training of technologies needs of UC Davis Health Pharmacy Business Services. The analyst works as the liaison between departments of finance, patient financial services, revenue integrity, and IT at UCDH.

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and / or certification if required of the position
- Training in Lean continuous improvement, or project management or business analytics.
- A minimum of 5 years' experience in pharmacy business, supply chain, business analytics, or healthcare operations.
- Experience preparing materials for a non-financial audience and clearly and effectively communicating information to all staffing levels.
- Experience in summarizing, analyzing and accurately reporting on large volumes of data using multiple systems in a timely manner.
- Ability to analyze information from EPIC Rx and, in simple terminology, present information to internal staff, external departments and all managers. Ability to update various FMOO data tables and EPIC Rx files as they relate to pharmacy billing rules
- Demonstrated professional level of analytical, statistical and mathematical skills to conduct complex financial analyses
- Initiate problem solving and conflict resolution skills to foster an effective working relationship with peers.
- Proven ability to work under pressure, adapt to changing priorities and produce quality work while meeting deadlines.
- Demonstrated ability to apply knowledge of PC office tools - Word, PowerPoint, Adobe, Access, data visualization or similar software - to problem solving and report production. Intermediate to advanced Excel skills, including formatting, VLOOKUPs, IFs, Sumifs, Pivot Tables, and data visualization.
- Demonstrated ability to evaluate conditions of task assignments and make recommendations to improve, revise, and / or clarify current systems, procedures, and policies etc. to promote increased efficiency in assignment and clearly communicating status to stakeholders and achieving deadlines.
- Ability to foresee problems and develop ways of solving them with the least negative impact on the department.
- Demonstrated ability to act independently and proactively.
- Strong communication and customer service skills.
- Proven ability to develop executive summaries, as well as detailed financial and statistical reports, including ability to present findings in a professions and clear manner to senior leadership.
- Solid understanding of business standards, techniques, and practices.
- Demonstrate leadership and team building skills and interact with all clients / customers (internally and externally).
