Department Description
The Davis 11 Trauma Nursing Unit (TNU) is a 36-bed acute care specialty and telemetry unit that primarily provides inpatient care and treatment for patients who have sustained blunt or penetrating injury, as well as those who may require surgical intervention. This includes care of the patient with suspected or confirmed intra-abdominal injuries, complex wound management, orthopedic fractures, head/neck/face injuries, brain trauma, chest trauma and pulmonary injury.
Current new graduate nurse participating in the UC Davis Nurse Residency Program and hired into the Patient Care Resources – [Acute Care Float or Critical Care Float Pool] are encouraged to apply. If offered a position, the new graduate will retain their probationary status until their six (6) month probationary period ends and remain in the Nurse Residency Program until completion.

Responsibilities
Registered Nurses in the Trauma Nursing department at UC Davis Medical Center provide care to adult and pediatric patients with a variety of medical (medical surgical, critical care, emergent, perioperative) needs. Patient conditions include: Patients suspected or confirmed to have intra-abdominal injuries, complex wound management, orthopedic fractures, head/neck/face injuries, brain trauma, chest trauma, pulmonary injury, and multiple medical conditions.
Required Qualifications
- Applicants are encouraged to upload license and certification if required of the position.
- At least 1 year of recent RN experience in an acute care setting.
- Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing.
- Possession of current California RN License.
- CPR certification.
- Ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
- Knowledge of current trends in nursing.
- Commitment to excellence in patient care.
- Effective interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrates accountability and professionalism.
- Adapts to change in a positive, professional and productive manner.
- Knowledge of legal implications in clinical practice and documentation.

- Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
- Telemetry certification
- ACLS certification

Special Requirements
- Must demonstrate ability in assessment, planning, implementing and evaluating patient care, taking into consideration protective interventions, development (behavioral and physical) and physiological characteristics specific to the patients
- Has mandatory reporting responsibilities for domestic violence, child abuse and elder/dependent abuse.
- Reference report reflect an overall meets or exceeds rating.
- Ability to work overtime, float to other areas and work weekends and holidays.
- Ability to safely lift 25 lbs. and assist in moving patients, and stand on feet over extended periods.
