The School of Social Ecology has marshaled its interdisciplinary expertise to focus on areas including global environmental degradation, poverty and other forms of inequality, prison overcrowding and gang violence in California, healthy child development, challenges faced by an aging population, health risks and community empowerment. These efforts have made the School of Social Ecology a national leader in applying basic theory and empirical research to a range of complex societal problems. As the first and only School of Social Ecology in the nation, our researchers bring real change, in real time, to real people's lives. Combining the scientific with the practical, we turn hope for change into real answers that can leave all of us better off. Reclaiming lives. Expanding community wellbeing. And, making a safer world all around.

The Career Services Pipeline will feature job placement programs, certification options, alumni mentorship, career panels, workshops, networking events, internship and job fairs, and guidance for career and graduate school planning. The School of Social Ecology is distinct in that all students are required to complete Field Study or practicum placements. It employs a co-curricular approach is based on evidence that learning is maximized when it is active, when students are engaged, and when theories and research are informed by their application to "real world" problems. Having students reflect on how to apply what they learn in the classroom to addressing societal challenges facilitates personal and professional growth, and deepens understanding of linkages between theory and practice, producing more informed and engaged business and civic leaders. Faculty offer the field study course year-round with over 1,000 students completing field study each year. Students complete the seminar and field work through placements at one of 225 approved community partners (42% non-profit, 41% public sector, 17% private sector). In order to ensure a quality experience for our students, community partners and faculty, the School has established a field study advisory board.

Through concurrent coursework and field placement, these prepare students to tackle the pressing issues confronting business and community leaders locally, regionally, nationally, and globally.
