The School of Social Ecology has marshaled its interdisciplinary expertise to focus on areas including global environmental degradation, poverty and other forms of inequality, prison overcrowding and gang violence in California, healthy child development, challenges faced by an aging population, health risks and community empowerment. The School of Social Ecology's Contracts and Grants Unit provides quality assistance to faculty, researchers, and other academic personnel affiliated with the school to obtain (pre-award) and manage (post-award) sponsored awards that support research, training, and other scholarly activities. The Contracts and Grants Unit staff ensures timely, accurate, and responsible stewardship of funds by carrying out these administrative activities within UC, UCI, Federal, State, and agency policies, procedures, and regulations.

The staff assists with the submission of contract and grant proposals from all prospective sponsors including but not limited to the Federal Government, Private Foundations, and For-Profit Entities. The staff also monitors and reports on funds received from outside sponsors and internal UCI sources and provides general guidance on the proper stewardship of those funds.

Your Role on the Team

The Senior Contract & Grant Analyst uses skills as a research administrator to support the development and/or oversight of research proposals and maintains contract and grant records in compliance with institutional research sponsor policies. They assist faculty, researchers, and other academic personnel associated with the school, facilitating their proposal submissions. They work on proposals of varying complexity where analysis of data requires understanding of complex regulations. The proposals they handle may involve grants and contracts which require task budgets, option years, multiple investigators, and multiple sub-awards. They assist in completing and approve transactions for signature by a manager or other authorized institutional official.

The expected pay range for this recruitment is $69,500- $94,000 (Annual).

Required

  • Thorough understanding of research administration guidelines of Federal and non-Federal sponsors supporting research and educational activities, preferably in a university environment.
  • Thorough knowledge of applicable compliance requirements related to use of human or animal subjects in research, financial conflict of interest, biosafety, etc.
  • Ability to manage significant volume of transactions.
  • Ability to perform complex financial analysis and customized reporting.
  • Demonstrated competence in the use of spreadsheet and database software in financial analysis, fiscal management and financial reports.
  • Ability to maintain independent judgment; strong organization and communication skills; and a customer service focus across broad and diverse subject areas.
  • Maintains current knowledge of compliance regulations in all areas of research administration.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of generally accepted accounting, fiscal and reporting principles.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of effective grant funding processes, procedures and techniques
  • Strong writing skills in a variety of styles to draft persuasive text for a variety of audiences while ensuring adherence to funding sponsorÆs guidelines.
  • 3-5 years Experience or a combination of education and experience.

Preferred

  • Proficient in the use of UC Campus and agency systems, such as Kuali Research, Cayuse, NSF Research.gov, and NIJ JustGrants
  • Demonstrated skill in understanding and interpreting University of California Policies and Procedures as they relate to finance, contracts and grants, and sales and services activities.
  • Demonstrated skill in understanding and interpreting current federal, state and University regulations relating to contracts and grants administration to include Federal Uniform Guidance.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills with a strong attention to detail
