Position Description
The UCI Institute for Memory Impairments and Neurological Disorders (UCI MIND) is seeking a dedicated Junior/Assistant Specialist to work within the study team of researchers to support NIA-funded Alzheimer’s Clinical Trials Consortium (ACTC) clinical research studies. This academic position requires the use of professional expertise to make scientific and scholarly contributions under the general guidance of the ACTC Principal Investigator.
Key responsibilities: Lead specialized and relevant community outreach initiatives, collaborating with community partners to facilitate diverse participant enrollment and retention in UCI MIND's research studies, including clinical trials; Executes targeted educational and recruitment strategies to boost referrals from diverse communities. Identify and address recruitment challenges while raising awareness about Alzheimer's disease research; Conducts follow-up phone calls, emails, and other communications for outreach and recruitment purposes with diverse community leaders, members, and other UCI MIND staff.; Manages detailed contact information and coordinates scheduling for meetings and educational activities. Conducts regular analysis of recruitment and engagement efforts, adjusting strategies and content as necessary to optimize effectiveness; Collaborate with other UCI MIND staff to coordinate and otherwise facilitate participant research visits; and Collect and enter data related to UCI MIND studies.
Rank and salary will be determined based on qualifications and experience.
Qualifications
Basic qualifications (required at time of application)
Junior Specialist: Appointees to the Junior rank should possess a baccalaureate degree (or equivalent degree) or equivalent research experience, e.g., with instrumentation and research equipment, software
programs, social science research methods, humanities scholarship, or creative activities.
Assistant Specialist: Appointees to the Assistant rank should possess a master’s degree (or equivalent degree) or five years of experience demonstrating expertise in the relevant specialization.
Degree in Psychology, Neuroscience, Neuroimaging, Public Health, Social Work, or other Health or Social Sciences related field.
At least 2 years of demonstrated community-based research related experience.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Bilingual English and Spanish or another language (oral, reading, and writing proficiency).
Demonstrated ability to develop and lead impactful educational outreach initiatives, including: Designing and delivering engaging presentations; Organizing and managing community events; Effectively communicating with diverse clinical and specialized groups; and Adapting content and approach for various cultural and educational backgrounds.
Exceptional record-keeping, organizational, and time-management skills and ability to multi-task.
Ability to build and maintain rapport with research participants, community members, colleagues, and collaborators.
