This position will work a hybrid schedule which includes a combination of working both onsite in La Jolla and remote.

DESCRIPTION

Under minimal supervision, the incumbent works independently, as part of project teams, and as a supervisor to support the overall goals of a large multi-site consortium investigating the relationship between substance use and neurocognitive development within the Department of Psychiatry. The incumbent simultaneously supports multiple projects, leads investigations, maintains data quality and accessibility, and designs and maintains data collection and dissemination systems. The incumbent also develops substantive and methodologic studies that support the consortium's goals. The position oversees and conducts methods development, data collection protocols, instrumentation development and evaluation, quality control and assurance, and software development and maintenance. The position also oversees and maintains web-based and mobile app data collection platforms. Integration of the online data collection into the data pipeline is part of the position's responsibilities. The position's responsibilities include the maintenance of the consortium data pipelines, data documentation and dissemination, and bringing international awareness and accessibility to the consortium's data archives.

The incumbent will conduct, direct, and consult on consortium analyses. Development of methodological and substantive research scientific manuscripts is also expected. The position is also responsible for ensuring research teams execute Quality Research Practices (QRPs) during planning, analysis, and reporting. The position also includes training and mentorship responsibilities associated with a leadership role in an academic research laboratory. In support of the Principal Investigators, the incumbent will provide formal and informal training and mentorship for students, interns, and post-doctoral researchers. Formal trainings will focus on methods, psychological measurement, data science, and statistics. Mentorship will focus on both methods and scientific inquiry in the context of health behavior research, neurocognitive development, and public health. The incumbent is responsible for organizing task sequencing of project staff in response to their evaluation of the consortium's multifaceted and dynamic priorities. Assist with project and miscellaneous tasks as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Nine years of related experience, education / training, OR a Bachelor's degree in related area plus five years of related experience / training.

In-depth knowledge of research function.

Advanced skills associated with statistical analysis, database management and systems programming in the context of academic research.

Advanced skills in analysis and consultation.

Advanced ability to communicate complex information in a clear and concise manner both verbally and in writing. Must be able to maintain confidentiality.

Advanced project management skills. Ability to lead and influence within and external to project team.

Advanced research skills at a level to evaluate alternate solutions and develop recommendations.

Advanced ability to think creatively to recommend action steps or strategize solutions relative to research.

Advanced skills in developing data pipelines from multiple sources to centralized data distribution portals.

Excellent planning and organizational skills and ability to work and lead in a changing, multiple-demand setting in order to prioritize a large volume of varied work tasks and meet deadlines efficiently and accurately.

Advanced skills associated with the planning and execution of mixed-methods research.

Advanced ability to apply, adapt, and develop novel study designs and analyses.

Demonstrated knowledge of full-stack programming for online and mobile app data collection software (Bash, Perl, PHP, MySQL, Swift).

Advanced skills in statistical education for undergraduate, graduate, and post-graduate trainees.

Demonstrated knowledge of assessment and measurement development in the context of neurocognitive research, including the use of WebCNP, WRAT, WAIS and substance use research including the Customary Drinking and Drug Use Record (CDDR), Alcohol Expectancy Questionnaire, and Self-Rating the Effects of Alcohol (SRE).

Demonstrated knowledge of neurodevelopment and substance use across the lifespan.

Proven ability to coordinate and execute multiple projects and tasks in a context of regularly shifting priorities.

Advanced skills in grant application development.

Extensive theoretical and working knowledge of a wide range of statistical approaches and software packages. Demonstrated experience of multiple statistical and database platforms including SAS, R, Stata, SQL, JMP, and Python.

Demonstrated experience leading the development and management of data capture and data pipelines in an academic research setting.

Demonstrated experience applying a wide range of epidemiologic and longitudinal modeling techniques in the context of academic research.

Demonstrated experience training, mentoring, and supervising junior data analysts, research assistants, and post-doctoral researchers.

Demonstrated experience as a key author for both substantive and methods-related publications.

Demonstrated experience leading data analytics and / or data capture of web or mobile phone application software development.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Doctoral training or equivalent experience.

Three or more years of experience in complex academic roles that include supervision and management of multiple reports and teams in the context of multiple Principal Investigators.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range : $104,900 - $198,900 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent : $50.24 - $95.26

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).

Salary : $104,900 - $198,900
