Sixth College is one of undergraduate colleges at UC San Diego and is home to over 5,000 students. Sixth prepares students to become effective global citizens who engage creatively and ethically with the complex issues facing the world in the 21st Century. Through the College's academic and co-curricular programs, students learn to become innovative, interconnected, and aware. The College draws its creative inspiration from the interdisciplinary examination of culture, art, and technology.
Provide college-wide and campus-wide leadership, consultation, and collaboration on a number of student success initiatives. Manage daily operations of the College Academic Advising unit. Supervise professional academic advising staff, oversee advising services, and resolve personnel concerns. Advise, consult with, and serve as resource person for the Dean, academic advising staff, other college units, and various campus partners on all undergraduate student academic and degree matters. Identify systemic problems and issues, and propose solutions to the Dean on changes to department policy and procedures. Review and improve existing advising programs and develop new programs, policies, and procedures. Act as key contact for faculty, staff, and students. Coordinate and lead the advising and enrollment process for the incoming cohort of students. Primary contact for degree audits, readmission, inter-college transfers and/or other exceptions to University policies. Lead outreach and support initiatives for students experiencing academic difficulty.
Technical leader with a high degree of knowledge in the overall field and recognized expertise in specific areas including general education and other degree requirements, University policies, academic resources and services. Apply advanced academic advising concepts and experience, address the most difficult problems in academic advising, and develop solutions to these problems. Create and maintain programs that include formulating strategies and administering policies, processes, and personnel; function with a high degree of autonomy.

Substantial professional experience in a college academic advising environment.
Experience with student advising and counseling techniques. Knowledge of multiple majors, colleges, and schools. Advanced professional experience in a college academic advising environment. Knowledge of educational theory and principles and experience in practical application of counseling techniques. Proven skill in evaluating academic records.
Demonstrated leadership skills in advising functions. Demonstrated leadership and management experience in a complex organization with proven ability to apply.
Advanced ability to supervise a diverse staff. Skill in selecting, training, and evaluating staff and students and the ability to prioritize job tasks for self and staff. Knowledge of supervisory practices and procedures.
Thorough knowledge of college / school policies, procedures, and requirements. Thorough knowledge and skill in interpreting and implementing college and University policies and procedures. Conception, development, implementation, and evaluation of college and campus programs.
Skills in judgment and decision-making, problem solving, project management. Advanced counseling skills, including demonstrated excellence in active listening and in helping individuals with problem solving, conflict resolution, and decision making.
Abilities in problem identification, reasoning, and ability to develop original ideas to solve problems. Proven ability to maintain confidentiality. Tact and discretion in referring students to other student services personnel.
Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to present comprehensive and detailed information clearly and concisely. Ability to speak well in public.
Ability to multi-task. Ability to work independently, prioritize and multi-task with frequent interruptions. Ability to set long- and short-term goals, excellence with "big picture" concepts and details to implement programs.
Strong ability to create and present effective training materials and to develop appropriate advising strategies for specific populations and individuals.
Proven ability to organize and conduct meetings, workshops, seminars, etc. Strong experience and skill in facilitating group interactions.
Proven ability to utilize technology to support the mission and goals of academic advising.
Tact and diplomacy in working with diverse populations including students, parents, faculty, campus administrators, and the public
Detailed knowledge of academic, career, international, and other services at the College, UC San Diego, other UC campuses, or similar institutions.

Pay Transparency Act
Annual Full Pay Range: $69,500 - $123,500 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)
Hourly Equivalent: $33.29 - $59.15
Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
