Position description

The Department of Pediatrics at the University of California, San Diego (UC San Diego) is committed to academic excellence within the faculty, staff, and student body and invites applications for an outstanding academic leader to serve as Chief of the Division of Genetics. This is a unique opportunity to lead a nationally recognized program and shape the future of pediatric genetics at one of the country's top academic institutions.

UC San Diego is consistently ranked among the world's leading research universities and is internationally recognized for its commitment to groundbreaking biomedical discovery, interdisciplinary collaboration, and academic excellence. The Department of Pediatrics is a vibrant academic community dedicated to advancing the health of children through innovation in clinical care, research, education, and advocacy. The Division of Genetics plays a key role in this mission, partnering closely with the Rady Children's Institute for Genomic Medicine (RCIGM), a global leader in pediatric genomic research. This collaboration provides access to advanced technologies like rapid whole genome sequencing and supports cutting-edge precision medicine approaches that are transforming the diagnosis and treatment of genetic diseases in children.

The Division serves more than 4,000 patients annually across a range of outpatient clinics, primarily at Rady Children's Hospital-San Diego (RCHSD), a top ten U.S. News & World Report-ranked children's hospital. Additional services are provided at the UC San Diego Medical Center, throughout Southern California, and in Mexico.

The Division Chief will lead a multidisciplinary team of clinicians, researchers, and educators with a focus on advancing medical genetics. The successful candidate will articulate a clear vision for expanding the division's academic and clinical missions and supporting faculty development. Responsibilities include strategic planning, faculty recruitment and mentorship, teaching, oversight of clinical and research programs, and collaboration across departments and institutes at UC San Diego and RCHSD.

The appointment at the Associate or Full Professor level will be based on the candidate's background and experience. Series will include 50% Ladder Rank / 50% In-Residence with secured extramural funding or 100% Ladder Rank.
