DESCRIPTION

UC San Diego Health seeks an experienced Environmental Health & Safety professional committed to reducing workplace-related injuries and fostering a culture of safety. The ideal candidate will leverage their expertise to develop, implement, and manage injury prevention programs that enhance health and safety across all UC San Diego Health locations.In this role, you'll collaborate within the Injury and Illness Prevention team, focusing on workplace hazard recognition, risk mitigation, and continuous improvement of safety policies and procedures. Your work will drive key safety initiatives across departments and disciplines within all the UC San Diego Health locations.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Program Management : Manage and administer one or more safety and health programs within UC San Diego Health's EH&S-Injury Prevention scope.
  • Risk Assessment : Conduct comprehensive workplace assessments to identify hazards and evaluate risk factors.
  • Injury Prevention : Review and follow up on injury reports, proactively identify opportunities for injury prevention, and recommend workplace modifications to promote a safer workplace and minimize work-related hazards.
  • Training & Education : Develop and deliver engaging safety training and educational materials across UC San Diego Health locations.
  • Collaboration & Planning : Participate in project planning, workgroups, and committees to encourage interdisciplinary safety collaboration.
  • Metrics & Reporting : Track and report key metrics to support program analytics, monitor progress, and identify improvement opportunities.
  • Technical Evaluation : Use various methods, techniques, and evaluation tools to achieve safety goals and objectives.
  • Hazard Documentation : Generate detailed reports that outline hazards, analysis methods, data interpretations, corrective actions, and evaluations of intervention effectiveness.

Additional Responsibilities : Support related programs as needed, including safe patient handling, ergonomics, needlestick reduction, occupational safety, and general workplace safety initiatives. Other duties assigned, depending on business needs.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in Public Health, Allied Health, Healthcare, Occupational Health and Safety, or a related field and at least three (3) years of relevant experience in healthcare, laboratory, or industrial settings.
  • Certification Requirement : Cal / OSHA 30-Hour Certification - General Industry.
  • Certification Commitment : Successful completion of Certified Healthcare Safety Professional (CHSP) certification within six months of hire.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Cal / OSHA Title 8 regulations and ANSI standards.
  • Proficiency in using measurement, sampling tools, and safety equipment / devices.
  • Solid understanding of workplace safety principles and injury prevention strategies.
  • Proven ability to develop, implement, and manage an effective safety program.
  • Strong presentation skills, with the ability to effectively engage diverse audiences.
  • Competence in data collection, analysis, and reporting for program evaluation.
  • Skilled in hazard assessment, incident follow-up, and creating actionable incident reports.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and recommend solutions for safety-related challenges.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Additional safety certifications : ASP, CHSP, COSS, CEAS, or CSP.
  • Background in healthcare safety.
  • In-depth knowledge of Cal / OSHA Title 8 and The Joint Commission (TJC) standards.
  • SPECIAL CONDITIONS

  • Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.

    Annual Full Pay Range : $77,000 - $139,200 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

    Hourly Equivalent : $36.88 - $66.67
