DESCRIPTION

The Department of Surgery is one of the largest departments in the School of Medicine and is comprised of 102 full-time faculty members, 220 voluntary faculty members, 20 physicians employed on MSP agreements, 25 doctors employed by the VA or other facilities, 77 accredited and 13 non-accredited trainees and 100 career staff. Activities are organized in 13 sub-specialty divisions. Annual expenditures across the Department total over $66.5M with a global research portfolio of over $19M. The missions of research, education, and patient care are intertwined and are integral to the goals of the department.

The Vascular Translational Research Lab at UCSD is a cutting-edge research environment led by three principal investigators (PIs) with diverse expertise in basic science, bioinformatics, and artificial intelligence. Our work spans innovative research using big data resources, animal models, and human tissue samples. With state-of-the-art facilities, we are committed to advancing scientific knowledge and translational applications. The lab manager will play a pivotal role in solidifying our research efforts by ensuring smooth execution of critical responsibilities.

The lab conducts research using multiple data sources and we collaborate across divisions, departments, and institutions. The lab manager will be an integral part of the team, helping ensure efficient and effective execution of research projects and initiatives. The lab manager's role involves a combination of project and compliance support and research coordination. The incumbent will keep track and manage tissue samples, maintain a detailed logbook, and ensuring proper storage. This position will help develop and maintain clinical and research databases. As well as providing administrative support by attending lab meetings, assist with scheduling meetings, and assist with lab supply and equipment acquisitions. This position will play a pivotal role in solidifying the research efforts by ensuring smooth execution of critical responsibilities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Theoretical knowledge of biology, immunology, and cell biology.

Demonstrated skill in accurate record keeping and ability to organize, analyze, and calculate data.

Demonstrated experience in ordering and maintaining lab equipment and supplies.

Enthusiasm to learn new techniques.

Exceptional organizational and communication skills.

Demonstrated ability to adhere to established guidelines for safety and environmental issues.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Experience with scheduling tools, reimbursement systems, and research database software is a plus.

Familiarity with research compliance processes, database management, and big data resources is a plus.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range : $60,301 - $97,008 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent : $28.88 - $46.46

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
