DESCRIPTION

The Lead Product Engineer serves as product manager for MORPHEUS system (portable medical pods that guide laypeople in primary and emergency care, combining advanced multimodal interaction technologies, including AR / VR, and AI-driven diagnostics). Oversees the design, development and deployment of cutting-edge healthcare platforms to support public health decisions with integrated outbreak analytics, scalable cloud tools, and HCI capabilities.

Leads the physical prototyping of portable medical devices, focusing on functionality, usability and scalability. Oversees manufacturing processes to ensure high-quality production aligned with design goals. Collaborates with industry partners to deploy pods and platforms in production environments. Develops strategies to adapt these systems for resource-limited settings and scales them for broader public health impact. Via iterative testing, refines system features, including data visualization, AR / VR guidance, and diagnostic algorithms. Applies frameworks like "Plan-Do-Study-Act" to enhance system usability and technical capabilities. Leads efforts to engage the public through educational tools like AR / VR-based "serious games," aiming to increase awareness and participation in public health initiatives. Presents system innovations and results at conferences.

As Lead Product Engineer, represents QI Director and Faculty Director / PI in matters related to engineering design considerations and financial requirements. Consults and advises on short and long range plans. Develops productivity and financial benchmarks for the unit. Implements strategic plans to oversee growth within unit through management of staff, resources, and services,

Serves as technical expert and resource to researchers, staff, and industry partners for the development of designs / experiments, proactively finding solutions to complex problems. Uses advanced engineering concepts and campus objectives to lead and perform the work of an engineering team engaged in a specialized engineering field on a training and / or research program. Regularly works on highly complex issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors. Exercises independent judgment in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results.

QUALIFICATIONS

Advanced degree in Materials Science, Computer Science and Engineering, Physics or a related area and at least 2 years of experience in development, construction, deployment or operation of scientific instruments and equipment - preferred ,and / or equivalent experience / training.

Demonstrated experience and expertise in designing and deploying AR / VR applications for medical procedures.

Expertise in physical prototyping, manufacturing, and industrial design.

Advanced knowledge of specialized design work as well as the overall field.

Advanced knowledge associated with the planning, development, and fabrication of engineering systems.

Demonstrated knowledge of XR design, HoloLens, SQL, and Epic to develop patient data visualizations for physicians.

Strong creativity and problem-solving abilities to apply principles, practices and procedures within discipline to complete difficult assignments.

Demonstrated project management experience.

Strong project management skills needed to assume responsibility for accomplishment of research objectives.

Advanced communication skills, both written and verbal, to convey complex information in a clear and concise manner.

Demonstrated strong presentation and communication skills to engage technical and non-technical audiences.

Advanced interpersonal and presentation skills.

Strong demonstrated knowledge and experience with engineering principles and methods to independently perform the full range of engineering professional design work.

Ability to work in a highly collaborative manner; readily assess complex challenges and barriers and recommend effective resolutions.

Demonstrated ability to lead, motivate and influence others.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range : $104,900 - $198,900 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent : $50.24 - $95.26

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
