Job Title
Certified Medical Assistant I
Reports To
The Certified Medical Assistant I position will report directly to the Clinical Managers.
Position Summary
Helps patients by providing clinical and business office assistance in the offices and clinics of health care providers.
Responsibilities and Duties
Patient Care
Adheres to infection control policies and standards.
- Documents social, medical, family, and surgical history in Electronic Medical Records (EMR).
- Explains treatment procedures to patients.
- Prepares patients for examinations.
- Provides patient with patient education when needed or directed by physician.
- Prepares and administering medications, including by intramuscular, intradermal, intradermal, and subcutaneous injectionsincluding vaccinations/immunizations, as directed by a physician or other licensed provider (e.g., a nurse practitioner or physician assistant).
- Wound care and changing dressings.
- Transmitting prescription refills as ordered by physician.
- Taking vital signs as proper triage review and update medical records at time of visits.
- Maintains patient confidentiality.
- Addresses patient calls and concerns in a timely manner and addressed daily.
Lab Reports, X-rays, Tests
- Collects and prepares laboratory specimens.
- Performs point-of-care testing in office.
- Phlebotomy.
- Performs electrocardiogram.
- Documented results communicated to the patient after physician has reviewed the results.
Administrative Duties
- Uses computer applications.
- Answers telephones
- Welcomes patients.
- Updates patient medical records
- Coding and filling out insurance forms.
- Schedules appointments
- Ensures proper forms are signed and dated, such as consent to treat, Advance Beneficiary Notice (ABN) forms, medical releases, and HIPAA forms.
Assisting the physicians and nurses during examinations
- Obtains and conveys information as needed.
Exam Rooms
- Prepares exam rooms and instruments for examination and testing.
- Stocks supplies and sterilizes instruments.
Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
- Attends meetings as required.
- Adheres to HIPAA guidelines/regulations/annual HIPAA training and other required training.
Education
- Certified or Registered Medical Assistant. (1) two-year college degree or (2) completion of a specialized course of study at a business or trade school.
Work Experience
- 0 years of relevant work experience
- Work is closely supervised.
- Problems faced are not typically difficult or complex.
- Explains facts, policies and practices related to job area.
Knowledge
- Knowledge of all related medical testing and surgical procedures.
- Knowledge of clinical lab functions.
- Knowledge of patient charting and recordkeeping processes.

- Attention to detail.
- Well organized.
- Able to correctly operate all related medical equipment..
