What are the responsibilities and job description for the Ophthalmic Technician position at UCF Health?
**Job Summary:**
We are seeking an Ophthalmic Technician to join our team to assist ophthalmologists in providing patient care. This position familiarizes patients with eye care procedures, answer patient questions, and take patient histories to support the Ophthalmologists.
**Minimum Qualifications:**
1. A two-year college degree
2. Certification as an Ophthalmic Technician
3. Previous experience working in an ophthalmology practice or eye clinic.
**Responsibilities:**
1. Assist ophthalmologists in clinical surgery procedures and treatments and outpatient surgical procedures.
2. Prepares patients for exams, routine procedures, and outpatient surgical procedures.
3. Take patient medical histories, documents patients' ocular, medical, and family history.
4. Instruct patients regarding medications, tests, and procedures.
5. Perform screening and diagnostic testing and assessments under the direction of the Ophthalmologists.
6. Clean and maintain ophthalmic instruments and equipment.
7. Sterilize surgical instruments for procedures.
8. Ensure patient comfort and safety during procedures.
**Knowledge/Abilities/Skills:**
1. Proficient in performing diagnostic tests and using ophthalmic equipment.
2. Knowledge of diagnostic ophthalmic equipment, clinical lab functions
3. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
4. Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
