Medical Lab Scientist - Transfusion Services

Description

In the Transfusion Services division of the Clinical Laboratory at UCH, our staff collaborates closely with medical directors to provide essential transfusion support for patients in a fast-paced, high-stakes environment. We take pride in having multiple AABB assessors and SBBs on our team, ensuring the highest standards of care. Our department serves a wide range of patients, from those in our Level 1 Trauma program to those undergoing complex treatments in our extensive transplant services, including our Bone Marrow and Stem Cell Transplant programs.

FTE: Full Time, 0.9, 72.00 hours per pay period (2 weeks)

Shift: Nights

Pay: $31.61 - $47.41 / hour. Pay is dependent on applicant's relevant experience

Summary

Performs laboratory testing of patient specimens in one or more sections of the laboratory.

Responsibilities

• Performs diagnostic/analytic testing of specimens. Interprets, documents and reports test results.
• Performs quality control testing, instrument maintenance and troubleshooting.
• Complies with good laboratory practice and regulatory requirements.
• Performs projects as assigned as well as serves as a resource to laboratory staff and other clinical staff as needed.
• Within scope of job, requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgement and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and take appropriate action.
  
  

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree and graduate of an accredited Medical Technologist or Medical Laboratory Scientist program.
• Certification as a Medical Technologist (MT) by the American Medical Technologists (AMT) or as a Medical Technologist (MT) or Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or categorical ASCP certification in a laboratory specialty/sub-specialty as applicable to job responsibilities. State licensure if required by law. Certification must be obtained within 90 days of hire.
• Preferred: Previous experience in blood banking within a fast-paced environment.
