What are the responsibilities and job description for the Financial Analyst position at UChicago Argonne, LLC?
Argonne National Laboratory seeks applications from talented and highly-motivated individuals to join a team of finance professionals focused on providing budget proposals, financial analysis, planning, and forecasting support for organizations in the AET directorate.
In this role you will provide support for proposal submissions, and budget preparations, financial analysis, and coordinate activities across both direct and indirect organization as needed. You will also:
- Prepare financial reports and interpret cost data to provide insights research personnel and sponsors.
- Monitor project spending, analyze variances, address funding challenges, and resolve financial discrepancies.
- Oversee funds control for purchases, subcontracts, service contracts, travel, material orders, effort charges, and other expenditures.
- Develop cost estimates and financial documentation for SPP and DOE proposal submissions, and agreements under guidance.
- Support the development and maintenance of budget information, financial data, and provide financial assistance to division staff.
- Recommend actionable plans and decisions based on detailed financial analysis.
- Collaborate with stakeholders such as accounting, budget office, the Sponsored Research Office, procurement, HR, and others.
- Deliver oral and written reports, using charts, graphs, and spreadsheets to present financial and operational trends effectively.
- Enhance efficiency by recommending and implementing automated financial tools and coordinating information needs.
Position Requirements
- Knowledge in project costing, estimation principles, and related procedures.
- Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize effectively, track projects, and recognize and analyze anomalies with minimal supervision.
- Proficiency in managing and querying databases using Excel to analyze and present financial data
- Adaptability to new procedures and technologies, with a focus on process improvement.
- Excellent interpersonal skills for building effective working relationships with staff at all levels, both within and outside the organization.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills to convey complex information effectively.
- Ability to interpret and apply financial policies, procedures, and requirements, offering guidance as needed.
- Experience in financial analysis, budgeting, modeling, and understanding financial processes to identify and implement improvements.

The selected candidate will be placed at the appropriate level (PA2 or PA3) dependent upon depth and breadth of relevant knowledge and skills brought to the position, as well as the amount of relevant experience. The requirements of the various levels are as follows:
PA2 Level: Bachelor’s and 2 years of experience or equivalent.
PA3 Level: Bachelor’s and 4 years of experience or equivalent.

Full timeThe expected hiring range for this position is $58,172.00 - $90,747.54.Please note that the pay range information is a general guideline only. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as, but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, business considerations, internal equity, and external market pay for comparable jobs. Salary : $58,172 - $90,748
