What are the responsibilities and job description for the Quality Engineering/Process improvement/Data analysis Intern position at UChicago Argonne, LLC?
Argonne National Laboratory, one of the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE’s) major research centers, is pleased to announce an opportunity for a college undergraduate student to participate in the Laboratory’s ongoing programs. The ideal candidate is interested in understanding process and system metric development to improve lab operational processes that support the lab's research and development mission.
Job responsibilities may include:
- Assist with collecting and analyzing various operational metrics.
- Data analysis and metrics development.
- Assist with benchmarking efforts related to Quality.
- Supporting development and verification of new or updated systems, processes, procedures and documentation.
- Assist in creating and updating Failure Mode and Effects Analyses and procedures Assist creating and updating group documentation including newsletters, forms and checklists & website content as needed for Quality, Work Planning and Analysis Office (including Quality, Work Planning, Event Analysis, and Performance Assurance Groups).
- Administrative tasks as requested by Quality, Work Planning, Event Analysis, and Performance Assurance Groups.
- Support 6S (workplace setup optimization - supports visual managment and improves efficiency)

Education and Experience Requirements
- Must be currently enrolled full-time at an accredited institution and have completed at least two semesters of schooling by the start of the program in an engineering or other STEM major.
- Must be 18 years or older at the time the appointment begins.
- Must possess a cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. If accepting an offer, must pass a screening drug test.
- Experience in developing charts, graphs and presentations.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously and follow through on issues in a timely manner.
- Attention to detail and focus on accuracy and producing quality, error-free work.
- Excellent written and verbal communication.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel,Word,PowerPoint)
- Desirable: Experience with data analysis software (For example: Power BI, Tableau, Minitab, .jmp) , SharePoint, OneNote, SQL.
