Join Argonne's Deployed Safety Services (DSS) team as a key player in promoting environment, safety, and health (ESH) culture. As a Safety Generalist, you'll partner with line management, researchers, and other professionals to apply ESH programs and principles in support of our multidisciplinary research. You'll build strong relationships, participate in risk assessments, and guide work planning to ensure safety excellence aligned with Argonne's mission.
As a DSS team member, you'll provide expertise and leadership in the practical implementation of Argonne's policies and federal regulations. You'll engage in safety reviews, inspections, and assessments, and will contribute to work planning and event investigations. With a focus on creative problem-solving, you'll work semi-independently under the guidance of experienced mentors to drive safety initiatives and support Argonne's research goals.

- Skill in efficiently producing end results through self-motivated efforts.
- Familiarity with occupational safety, chemical safety, ionizing radiation safety, and environmental protection principles and regulatory requirements.
- Knowledge of hazard identification, hazard assessment, hazard mitigation/controls, and risk management principles/techniques.
- Ability to work in hazardous laboratory & external environments.
- B.S. degree in a related field and work experience in a relevant field such as ESH, Radiological Protection/Health Physics, Nuclear/Electrical/Mechanical/Chemical Engineering, Forensics/Threat Analysis, Chemistry/Radiochemistry/Nuclear Chemistry, Physics, Nonproliferation, or related.
- To perform the essential functions of this position, successful applicants must provide proof of U.S. citizenship, which is required to comply with federal regulations and contract. Ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level security clearance is required.
- Ability to travel off-site (primarily local) may occasionally be required (< 5%).

Preferred:
- Experience participating in or conducting investigations, causal analyses, assessments, and reviews.
- Knowledge of applied behavioral sciences (Human Performance Improvement, Human and Organizational Performance, Industrial/Organizational Psychology, etc.).
- Knowledge of explosives management (storage, transfer, and use).
- Knowledge of transportation & handling requirements associated with HAZMAT and radiological materials.
- Knowledge of project management principles and techniques.
- Certification as an ESH Professional (CSP, ASP, CIH) is desirable.
- Experience in a laboratory or research setting is preferred.
The selected candidate will be placed at the appropriate level (PT2 or PT3) dependent upon depth and breadth of relevant knowledge and skills brought to the position, as well as the amount of relevant experience. The requirements of the various levels are as follows:
- PT2 Level: Bachelor’s and 2 years of experience or equivalent. The expected pay range for this level is $67,639 - $106,724
- PT3 Level: Bachelor’s and 4 years of experience or equivalent. The expected pay range for this level is $83,264 - $131,342.
