What are the responsibilities and job description for the Undergraduate Research Aide - Nuclear Engineering position at UChicago Argonne, LLC?
The Nuclear Science and Engineering (NSE) Division is seeking a flexible number of summer interns to support ongoing NSE programs and projects. The NSE division and its predecessors at Argonne National Laboratory pioneered the application of nuclear fission for energy generation and maintained world-leading capabilities for developing innovative reactor and fuel cycle systems. Areas of in-depth expertise include reactor and fuel cycle physics, thermal hydraulics, fuels and materials development, radiochemistry and nuclear-chemical engineering, structural mechanics, nuclear nonproliferation, security, and safeguards.
The candidate is expected to support R&D staff members to perform computational analysis or experimental work under detailed guidance and produce documents describing the results of development work, analyses, and investigations.
Knowledge and experience with the following:
- Knowledge of mathematics, physics, and engineering principles.
- Basic knowledge of nuclear engineering principles, theories, and practices. · Skills in the use of computers and in the analysis of computational or experimental results.
- Ability to work in a team setting.
- Basic skills in oral and written communications and presentations.

Education and Experience Requirements
- Must be currently enrolled full-time at an accredited institution and have completed at least one semester of schooling by the start of the program.
- Must be 18 years or older at the time the appointment begins.
- Must possess a cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
- If accepting an offer, must pass a screening drug test.

The expected hiring range for this position is $19.22 - $33.48.Please note that the pay range information is a general guideline only. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as, but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, business considerations, internal equity, and external market pay for comparable jobs.
