Advanced Pharmacy Technicians play an essential role in the medication use process. They are responsible for compounding parenteral medications in a newly constructed clean room, process medication orders, and ensuring patients have their medications when requested.
As an Advanced Pharmacy Technician you will be responsible for the order entry of prescriptions, preparation of narcotics investigational drugs and other home infusion medications, pharmacy purchasing and inventory control, disposable supplies and related activities under the direction of a pharmacist for intravenous homecare patients. Assumes responsibility and accountability for the provision of safe, accurate, and timely medication distribution and reliable pharmaceutical care.

UChicago Medicine is committed to transparency in compensation and benefits. The pay range provided reflects the anticipated wage or salary reasonably expected to be offered for the position.
The pay range is based on a full-time equivalent (1.0 FTE) and is reflective of current market data, reviewed on an annual basis. Compensation offered at the time of hire will vary based on candidate qualifications and experience and organizational considerations, such as internal equity. Pay ranges for employees subject to Collective Bargaining Agreements are negotiated by the medical center and their respective union.

Essential Job Functions
- Perform accurate prescription order entry processes that are held for pharmacist’s review and authorization.
- Prepare and compound sterile parenteral/enteral pharmaceuticals, controlled substances, and chemotherapeutic agents under pharmacist's supervision, demonstrating a commitment to excellence.
- Initiate and complete delivery forms.
- Attend and participate in all patient care meetings and conferences.
- Responsible for knowing and adhering to Policy and Procedures governing pharmacy operations. Assist in maintaining the pharmacy facility in adherence to Policy and Procedures for achievement of excellent audit results.
- Organize assigned work load to best facilitate its accomplishment.
- Prepare record and monitor results for pharmaceutical quality assurance testing.
- Assists with the management of pharmacy inventory. Prepares purchase orders and validates receipt of pharmaceutical stock and supplies from our primary wholesaler and direct shipments from other vendors. This also includes managing the inventory for all investigational drugs and maintaining records of receipt and return of investigational drugs at the close of a study.
- Maintain the confidentiality of patients and their personal information at all times.
- Assist the pharmacist, when requested in all duties and functions according to standard practices of the profession and state, federal and other applicable laws
- Assists with the education and training of pharmacy students, technician students and new personnel.
- Minimum of one-year experience in pharmacy preparations for parenteral/enteral, intravenous antibiotics and chemotherapeutic agents.
- Must be a certified pharmacy technician
- Knowledge of basic drug terminology, pharmaceutical evaluation, pharmacology and pharmaceutical law.
- Pharmaceutical quality assurance experience with parenteral products.
- Excellent aseptic technique must be demonstrated on an ongoing basis.
- Ability to work in a team environment and cooperate with all departments within the home infusion center.
