The Physical Therapist Resident is a fully licensed Physical Therapist who is expected to perform basic physical therapy services/procedures, while participating in a structured program of advanced training in Orthopedic Physical Therapy practice. The ultimate purpose of this position is to enhance the therapist’s competence in a specialty area of PT practice. He/she will be providing PT services to a selected patient population.

Essential Job Functions
- Evaluates patients utilizing the appropriate tests and measurements to determine the physical therapy problem/level of function and the recommended discharge environment
- Promotes and has knowledge of and utilizes appropriate patient care protocol relating to the physical, psychosocial and developmental needs for neonatal, pediatric, adult and geriatric patients
- Establishes physical therapy interventions based upon the evaluation and examination, the patient/family, the referring practitioner and therapist's goals
- Competently performs appropriate physical therapy techniques and procedures
- Provides for continuity of patient care through written and verbal communication with team members and other treating disciplines, especially in preparation of planned absences
- Makes recommendations for needed patient care equipment prior to patient discharge and assists
- Documents findings, patient progress, and all procedures performed within established timeframes
- Submits all patient billing at the end of each day Instructs patient/families in home programs
- CPR Certification
- Knowledge and skills necessary to provide care which is age specific/appropriate for the types of patients served
- Basic computer knowledge /skills needed for patient care, advancing education, and research applications
- Appropriate interpersonal skills to enable positive interactions with patients/families, the multidisciplinary, faculty, and external contacts
- Declared ambition to become an American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties clinical specialist in pediatric or orthopedic area of PT practice
- The willingness and acknowledgement that participation in the residency will take self directed initiatives and study outside of defined work schedule to accomplish all required tasks
- Strongly encouraged to have minimum 16 weeks of clinical exposure to patients in declared area of specialty (including clinical rotation or volunteer experience)
- Current physical therapy license in the State of Illinois, CPR Certification
- Job Type/FTE: Full Time (.9 FTE)
- Shift: Mondays-Fridays 8:00am to 4:30pm
