Position description
We are seeking to hire a faculty member for the position of Psycho-Oncologist within the Department of Psychiatry and Human Behavior. The appointment will be made at the rank of Health Sciences Assistant, Associate, or Full Clinical Professor, depending on the qualifications and experience of the selected candidate.
Position Overview :
Under the general direction of the UCI Health Chief Executive Officer; the Vice Dean, Faculty & Clinical Affairs, School of Medicine, Chair of Psychiatry & Human Behavior, and the Director of the Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center, through their appropriate designees; the position in Psycho-Oncology will provide Psychiatric services within the Supportive Oncology Program and within the Department of Psychiatry and Human Behavior. The faculty member is expected to establish and sustain a clinical and scholarly program focused on providing psychiatric care for cancer patients.
The Supportive Oncology Program is functionally a coordination of services provided by no less than 12 existing supportive and / or clinical programs / units / Divisions / Departments / Institutes. These include but are not limited to : Pain Management Program, Nutritional / Dietician support; Case Management and Financial Counseling; Social Work; Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation; Neurology; Sports Medicine and osteopathic manipulation; Geriatrics; Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery; Physical Therapy; Psychiatry & Human Behavior; Occupational Therapy; Medical Genetics and Genetic Counselors; Spiritual Care / Chaplaincy; Palliative Care Program; and Susan Samueli Institute for Integrative Medicine.
Key Responsibilities :
- In collaboration with the entire Supportive Oncology Program, lead the Psycho-Oncology Program, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based, patient-centered care addressing the psychological and mental health impact of a cancer diagnosis and treatment.
- Coordinate psychiatric and mental health care across multiple disciplines to enhance patient care and experience, over the course of their cancer trajectory
- Foster cross disciplinary communication and coordination of care.
- Establish and maintain clinical standards, policies, and procedures in accordance with evidence-based practices.
- Foster and encourage clinical trial development by the Psycho-Oncology Program within the Supportive Oncology Program.
- Supervise LCSWs and Psychologists involved in the Supportive Oncology Program.
- Coordinate and lead cancer patient support groups in conjunction with other members of the Psycho-Oncology Team
- In conjunction with Director of the Supportive Oncology Program and the EPIC team, assure inclusion of patient reported outcomes, and psychosocial data (both demographic and surveys) in the EMR in an easily retrievable manner.
- Develop educational opportunities and assist with change management and cultural change for UCI Health providers and clinical staff for early involvement of Psycho-Oncology and Supportive Oncology.
- Participate in Advancement activities to support, sustain, and grow the Supportive Oncology Program
- Participate in the clinical and educational programs in the Department of Psychiatry and Human Behavior at UC Irvine, including on call activities.
- Serve the mental health and cancer care needs of the diverse patient population in Orange County
