The Department of Molecular, Cell & Developmental Biology (MCDB) is seeking a skilled financial professional to join a dynamic five-person team responsible for managing $5–7 million in operating and extramural funds. This role offers an exciting opportunity to collaborate with faculty on grant proposals, including budget development, while ensuring compliance with agency policies and guidelines. The ideal candidate will provide strategic financial guidance, manage financial reporting, and generate projections to support effective decision-making. This position is well-suited for individuals with strong analytical skills, experience in research administration, and the ability to navigate complex funding structures within an academic environment.


Salary & Compensation



  • UCLA provides a full pay range. Actual salary offers consider factors, including budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business considerations. Salary offers at the top of the range are not common. Qualifications


  • 1-2 years Experience in extramural fund management (Preferred)
  • Demonstrated skill in managing funds from multiple sources and ensuring compliance with financial policies. (Required)
  • Ability to interpret and apply technical documents, including agency policies, award documents, and financial statements. (Required)
  • Strong knowledge of federal and state contract and grant policies, including proposal preparation for life sciences. (Required)
  • Ability to analyze financial data from multiple sources and generate accurate, timely reports. (Required)
  • Knowledge of procurement practices and proficiency in using online purchasing and accounts payable systems (e.g., BruinBuy ). (Preferred)
  • Strong understanding of payroll and personnel policies, practices, and systems. (Required)
  • Skill in designing and implementing spreadsheets and databases for financial and administrative purposes. (Required)
  • Ability to balance ledgers, process adjustments, and maintain accurate financial records. (Required)
  • Proven ability to communicate complex financial and administrative information effectively to diverse audiences. (Required)
  • Strong writing skills for preparing business correspondence, reports, and financial documents. (Required)
  • Demonstrated ability to meet tight deadlines and expedite administrative processes accurately. (Required)
  • Proficiency in word processing and other software to create templates, reports, and administrative documents. (Required)

Education, Licenses, Certifications & Personal Affiliations


  • Bachelor's Degree In business administration, accounting, or related field and/or equivalent experience/training (Required)
