The Manager, Data Center will implement strategy and lead the design, planning, and deployment of scalable and resilient data center infrastructure. The Manager is responsible for the overarching operations, performance management, risk mitigation, and success of the data center. This role will collaborate across IT to ensure strategic alignment and that efficient, reliable, and secure service is delivered to campus customers. This role will maintain oversight of data center team members, resolve escalations, and ensure that all relevant incidents are resolved in a timely and efficient manner.

The Manager, Data Center will lead a strategic program focused on the consolidation and optimization of the compute footprint, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives. This program will enhance operational efficiency, standardize infrastructure across data centers and facilities, improve system performance, reduce costs, and mitigate risks. Through a structured approach, the Manager, Data Center will drive consistency, streamline resources, and implement best practices to support long-term scalability and resilience The Manager, Data Center will positively impact UCLA's operations and culture by ensuring UCLA's IT infrastructure is operable, secure, efficient, and effective in service of the university's academic mission. This team member will advance the University's mission by delivering exceptional information technology services comprehensively and consistently across faculty, staff, and students. This role will execute UCLA's vision while modeling UCLA's culture and values.


Salary & Compensation



  • UCLA provides a full pay range. Actual salary offers consider factors, including budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business considerations. Salary offers at the top of the range are not common. Qualifications


  • Five years experience working in one or more of the following fields: information technology, data center services, network operations, cloud services, or another related field. (Required)
  • Two years experience leading teams in a management or leadership role, particularly in a fast-paced, service-oriented environment. (Required)
  • Extensive applicable experience in information technology, data center, disaster recovery, computer science, computer information systems, or a related field. Significant experience managing and contr (Required)
  • Significant experience overseeing data center-related projects and processes. Significant experience leading multifunctional teams. (Required)
  • Advanced experience with problem research and resolution for issues related to a complex data center facility and colocation (Required)
  • Advanced experience and understanding of UPS systems, HVAC systems, and other physical infrastructure associated with temperature control and power systems. (Required)
  • Demonstrated experience presenting complex technical information to audiences of technical and non-technical stakeholders. (Required)
  • Significant experience working in a project-based environment using leading project management practices including schedule management, status reporting, and communication of project risks and issues. (Required)
  • Extensive experience solving technical and non-technical problems; able to delegate solutioning when appropriate to the proper resources. (Required)
  • Experience operating as a point of escalation. (Required)
  • Demonstrated experience providing inclusive leadership of others, cultivating an inclusive environment that values equity, diversity, inclusion and belonging. (Required)
  • Seven or more years experience working in one or more of the following fields: information technology, data center services, network operations, cloud services, or another related field. (Preferred)
  • Five or more years experience leading teams in a management or leadership role, particularly in a fast-paced, service-oriented environment. (Preferred)
  • Experience in complex higher education environments, serving academic and administrative functions of a large public university. (Preferred)
  • Advanced knowledge of safety policies, practices, and procedures pertaining to data center operations. (Required)
  • Advanced ability to manage team members and to interpret, analyze, and apply pertinent policies, procedures, regulations, and requirements. (Required)
  • Advanced knowledge of ITIL and other industry best practices for data center management. Proven ability to triage and escalate to supervisors and/or other teams for resolution. (Required)
  • Advanced written and verbal communication skills and is able to communicate work assignments to medium-sized teams. (Required)
  • Demonstrated leadership / management skills, including abilities in persuasion, negotiation, change management, and mentorship. (Required)
  • Advanced project management skills with demonstrated experience delegating responsibility, tracking project progress, supervising others, and advising teams on competing priorities (Required)
  • Able to lead data gathering efforts seeking information from multiple and diverse sources. Demonstrated understanding of how decisions affect teams. Demonstrated ability to make decisions with integrity. (Required)
  • Inspires creativity in others and advises teams on industry-leading practices, such as the incorporation of new technologies or processes. Has demonstrated experience leading in an ever-changing, fast-paced environment. (Required)

Education, Licenses, Certifications & Personal Affiliations


  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of experience/training in one or more of the following fields: computer science, engineering, computer information systems, or related field. (Required)

Special Conditions for Employment


  • The anticipated pay range for this position is $130,986 - $149,465, annually; salary is dependent upon the skills and experience of the selected finalist.
