General Description

Under the direction of the Director of Media Services the Assistant Director assumes responsibility for providing television, audiovisual, and electronic media presentation, and services for the College.

The Assistant Director supervises some profession, clerical, and student employees as assigned by the Director.

The Assistant Director preforms the duties of the Director in the Director's absence.

Characteristics, Duties, and Responsibilities

  • Coordinates and supervises the operation and delivery of audio-visual equipment, systems, and services on all College campuses.
  • Coordinates and supervises the maintenance and repair of all audio-visual equipment and systems.
  • Evaluates and recommends for purchase audio-video equipment and systems.
  • Purchases or fabricates all cabling needs for maintenance of media systems on all College campuses.
  • Maintains and updates Technology Classroom Database.
  • Provides video and audio support for special events across all campuses.
  • Acts as crew in TV studio.
  • Trains or supervises training of staff and faculty in use of presentation technologies.
  • Trains Media Center staff in the use of new presentation technologies.
  • Supervises Media coordinators on maintenance routines and training of student workers.
  • Maintains and works with staff and faculty to develop the College's instructional video collections.
  • Prepares reports for the use of the Director in planning and budgeting.
  • Assists in personnel evaluations.
  • Responsible for the College's internal cable TV system.
  • Performs related duties as appropriate.

Education Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Experience

  • Minimum 2 years' experience in media services environment, preferably in higher education.
  • Minimum 1 year experience in television production.
  • Minimum 1 year experience training or teaching experience.
  • Competencies and Skills Required

  • Thorough knowledge of audio-visual equipment and systems.
  • Knowledge of television studio and field production equipment and techniques.
  • Familiarity with video editing systems.
  • Knowledge of both digital and analog video / audio signal standards.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Knowledge of relevant computer hardware and software.
  • Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • This position's duties are normally performed in a typical interior / residence work environment, based on the activity scheduled.
  • Some physical effort required; however, the employee must occasionally lift and / or move up to 25 pounds.
  • No or very limited exposure to physical risk.
  • Some local travel required.
  • Salary

    60,000-$65,000

    Terms of Employment

    Flexible schedule to meet department needs. Some evening, weekends, and extended hours will be required. Ability and willingness to travel on short notice to all on and off- campus sites as needed by the college. Employee must establish primary residency in New Jersey within one year of appointment unless an exemption applies.
