Role Description
This position will serve as Associate Counsel reporting to UCOR General Counsel.
- Responsible for advising management concerning legal rights, obligations, and privileges, interpreting laws, rulings, and regulations, and representing UCOR in litigation and other legal proceedings.
- Attends to matters of significant legal complexity, functioning as associate attorney
- Primary focus will be in the areas of contracts, employment law, labor law, workers compensation law, civil litigation, and procurement.
- Conduct broad legal assignments necessitating ability to evaluate matters which may have a major bearing on the conduct of the organization's business.
- Interprets organization policy. Recommends changes in procedures.
- Possess and apply comprehensive legal knowledge to the completion of complex assignments.
- Perform a wide range of legal counseling functions involving but not limited to leases, licenses, purchases, sales, insurance, etc.
- Provide legal advice to the company and participate in major legal actions.
- Support the LEAN program by identifying and working to eliminate waste from work processes.
Qualifications
- J.D. or LL.B or equivalent
- Licensed to practice law (TN preferred but not required)
- Extensive corporate legal experience preferred. Must be fully qualified in particular area of law, such as contract, labor, employment, workers compensation, etc
- Demonstrated experience in civil litigation
- Demonstrated knowledge of labor relations and collective bargaining among multiple unions
- Working knowledge of the Earned Value Management System (EVMS) process
- Hold a Q or Top Security clearance or have the ability to obtain one.
- Experience working in federal agency space (DOE site work experience preferred).
- Strong Interpersonal skills to include effective oral and written communication skills.
