Position Overview:
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Instructor to work with adults with disabilities. The Instructor will support students in developing life skills, personal growth, and self-advocacy, while ensuring their safety and well-being. The ideal candidate is patient, creative, and eager to make a positive impact.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist students with disabilities in daily activities, providing physical support when needed.
- Teach skills in areas such as life skills, arts, or technology, encouraging student development.
- Ensure the health, safety, and rights of all students are respected.
- Advocate for students and support their ability to develop self-advocacy skills.
- Support students with personal care when necessary.
- Plan and lead educational and recreational activities.
- Collaborate with supervisors and other staff to create individualized service plans.
- Maintain open communication with students, care providers, and agency representatives.
- Attend training sessions and workshops to stay up-to-date on best practices.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience or interest in visual arts, performing arts, and/or technology.
- Valid California driver’s license, proof of insurance, or reliable personal transportation.
- Commitment to advocating for the rights and dignity of individuals with disabilities.
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
- Positive attitude, with a sense of humor and ability to remain calm in crisis situations.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
- Must be able to bend, sit, and stand for extended periods.
- Ability to work in varying climate conditions.
- Fine and gross motor skills required for equipment use and maintenance.
- Ability to push and move individuals in wheelchairs.
Work Hours:
Part-Time or Full-Time, Monday – Friday (hours may vary depending on schedule).
Note: Occasional Saturdays may be required for training sessions.
Starting Pay: $16.50 - $19.00 per hour
