Our special needs school in Commack, which operates year-round, is seeking a Custodial Supervisor.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Plans, organizes and coordinates day-to-day custodial and grounds activities by preparing work schedules; prioritizes and coordinates duties and assignments of staff; ensures effective workflow and facilitates operations; adjusts work schedules as needed.
- Acts as a hands-on supervisor performing manual work in building maintenance and grounds care.
- Issues each maintenance person his/her daily work assignments and is responsible for the tracking of these assignments to satisfactory completion.
- Maintains accurate written and computer records for services and inspections.
- Maintains daily timesheets on those he supervises.
- Maintains building, performing minor and routine painting, plumbing, and other related maintenance activities.
- Prepares and maintains appropriate inventory of all housekeeping stock and cleaning materials and equipment necessary for custodial staff to properly perform their duties.
- Follows written and/or verbal instructions regarding use of chemicals, supplies and equipment; complies with safety policies and procedures; prepares work orders for repair and/or maintenance.
- Provides Director of Facilities with written reports as to supply inventories, staff work schedules, staff time off requests, etc.
- Insures that facility is free of unsafe conditions and conform to agency standards, state and federal regulations.
- Supervises and assists with daily cleaning tasks as needed: Empty waste receptacles, Dusts and polishes furniture and woodwork. Wash windows, toilets, washrooms and fixtures. Cleans and polishes fixtures. Scrub, mop, wax, and polish floors. Remove recycling materials.
- Assembles, repairs and moves furniture as needed.
- Supervises and assists in the control of snow and ice removal.
- Maintains grounds including cutting grass, trimming shrubbery, and raking leaves, sweeping debris and washing walkways.
- Locks and unlocks buildings; secures building when facility is not in use by checking for unlocked doors and windows; and reports unauthorized occupants.
- May operate low pressure boiler
- Available to work various shifts as required to substitute for staff and supervise contractors.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
Education and/or Experience
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and one to three months related experience and/or training; having trade skills a plus. Must have a minimum one-year experience in housekeeping or similar field.
